Any NYC Horns use this grocery home delivery service? Their prices don't seem that out of line, except for meat, which is expensive unless of superior quality.

Any bad experiences?

I don't use it, b/c they don't come to my hood, and I have a decent grocery store right across the street. My g/f has used it a couple times, and raves about it. The meat we got from there was excellent. I know the rest of the guys here are all about it too. I've actually never heard any complaints except they just don't deliver to Williamsburg.

I sue it, it's cheap as hell, everything they send is premium quality (as in the produce is super fresh).

No complaints, much cheaper than shopping at stores, easier.

It's owned by fairway.

Actually, Fairway has a couple of large signs that say they aren't affiliated with FreshDirect. Apparently the FreshDirect founder used to work for them, but they had a falling out and now there's quite a bit of animosity between the two parties.

I'd use it if I didn't live so close to Fairway, although shopping there is like a wrestling match sometimes. If I didn't live close to a nice store, then I'd use FreshDirect. Have heard nothing but good things about them.

I've heard good things.
The one time I used them, I forgot they were coming and my doorman must have just set it outside my door that night for me to pick up the next morning, not thinking it was 50$ in fresh fish and meat. So, it almost all went bad. I blame that more on my doorman than on fresh direct, but I have no idea if they actually did come @ the time I told them to.
Nobody else has had this problem that I know of.

Just had my first freshdirect order delivered yesterday (at 9 p.m.!). Everything came nicely boxed up and packaged, fresh veggies look good; they even had white asparagus, which is tough to find and a favorite of my German wife.

Navigating the web site for the first time was time consuming, but that will change as I get more familiar with it. Selection for veggies, fruit, meat, cheese, cold cuts is excellent. Frozen food, canned food, spices, sauces is somewhat lacking. The kicker is that you can order wine and beer, delivered to your door.

So far, I'm very pleased. Thanks for the input.

I wasn't all that impressed. They sent eggs which broke which created a mess. I like to go to Whole Foods, the one at the Time Warner Center is awesome. However, the best meat in the city is at Dean & Deluca. I have gotten prime steaks from both Whole Foods and D&D and the latter was superior.

Penn: there are a gazillion little meat markets that outclass D&D.

Dobilina: dude, every corer bodega and grocery deliver Berr and wine, as do Liquor and Wine stores. it's NYC baby

I used it when I lived on the UWS. It is a very good service though it can be a pain to be home at a specific time. But they were never late and the food was always very good, though some things (like bread) are better purchased at the local grocer.
