Freebird's World Burrito

Freebirds is a trendy fast food place, meaning it is good food, but fast, and served by people with tongue rings and such.My recommendation to anyone is to NOT get the Supermonster burrito. It is nearly impossible for anyone to eat, although at 6'0", 170 pounds, I was able to eat the entire thing once.Get the black beans, unless you are just completely in love with refried. Black are better tasting, better for you, and just cooler looking. If it seems like they are skimping you on cheese or rice or chicken or beef or whatever you ask for, let them know, and they will load it up for ya.Sauces- they have ALL kinds of flavors. They have fresh lime juice, tomatillo sauces, "bad ***" barbeque sauces, and habanero and "death" sauces.
Don't go overboard on the hotness, or you will die.As far as the tortilla flavors- there is not a huge difference in the flavors of Spinach, wheat, flour, and the red one (for the life of me, I cannot remember what it is called now). But, the Spinach seems a little bit thinner, the wheat seems thicker, and the flour is more traditional. The red one I get only when I am feeling zesty, although it is not hot or anything like that.Freebirds also has tacos and quesadillas (I think), but nobody gets those.
Be prepared to tell them exactly what you want. They can be sort of soup-Nazi-ish if you are piddling down the line on a busy hour. The atmosphere is sort of that of modern-day alienation, vis-a-vis metal tables and chairs, and metal rails and assembly line style service. One thing making it more personal is that they have a neat deal where anything you buy is going to be in increments of dollars and quarters. "No chump change," so they say.I go there about once a week or every two weeks. It is the three things every guy wants: filling, cheap, and fast. And, really, there are always nice looking college girls in there eating their hearts out.I recommend this place highly, even though its roots are in College Station.Hook 'em.------------------

Very well stated by HornyWill (did I just say that). I eat at Freebirds at least once a week while on the run at work. The "red" tortilla Will was referring to is cayenne. I highly recommend it.Once you get past the concept of anything good having been in Collie Station first, it's easy to get hooked. Frankly, I'm surprised Freebirds ever did well over in AggieLand. It is VERY Austin. While on the subject, Chango's on Guadalupe near the Wheatsville Coop serves up some tasty burritos as well.

Freebird's has become a staple for those of us on the night shift here. I think HW pretty well summed it up, but for my money, you can't make the burrito hot enough. I've had them slather on the habanero sauce in addition to putting a full scoop of fresh jalapenos on the things, and it provides nothing more than a comfortable burn, but maybe that's just me.I recommend it to all.

Freebirds - 3/5 stars for cheap grubChango's on Guadalupe - 5/5 stars. Brought to you by the owners of Manuel's, Chango's is an awesome little taqueria that's more MEX than TEX.The Maximo Burritos are pretty similar to what you get at Freebirds, but I think they're a bit tastier & fresher. Tortillas are literally made right in front of you. Chango's also has great Agua Frescas -- flavors like Horchata, Watermelon, Cantaloupe that are really fabulous. All for like $6 a head. Check it out @ Guadalupe and 31st, just south of Wheatsville Coop.

Buy the Supermonster, but get them to cut it in half and wrap the halves seperately. They will gladly do this for you. Eat half now, save the other half for later. In my opinion, their burrito tastes better if you give the ingredients a day to blend together.

Freebirds is real tasty. Employees are weird, but that's common in Austin. Lines at lunch suck.

Being an Ag, I'd obviously strongly recommend it. If you think the lines are bad in Austin, you should check out the ones in College Station. I've seen lines of probably close to 100 people on Sunday evenings.
