Free throws

How can we miss the back end of 5 tries? The 2nd one is the easier one. Just lack of concentration. We have 4 free throws and the ball and only get 2 points. This game should be over and we're leaving them in it.

Baylor's "Hack-a-'Horn" strategy is paying dividends ... not only in our misses, but also in Scott Drew bitching about the free-throw disparity.

This could kill us in the NCAA Tourney.

Texas has been outplayed and outhustled in the 2nd half big time, I would foul Texas every time they have proved they cannot hit free throws

Surprised with this post game quote from Rick:

"we performed on the free throw line as well as we wanted"

I guess they just didn't want to perform as well as I wanted them to. Still, glad we hang on for a win. I'm very proud of this team.

Jody's last Final Four team was some sick 82% from the line. And in the final 2:00 minutes of games/OT's they were 92.7%. In other words don't let her team get a lead, because when you have to foul, it is just one more shovel on the grave. When Geno and gals won that semi-final game after trailing with 4:00 to go, he flat out said he wasn't worried about playing his "good friend" Pat Summitt in the title game, making it clear that the semi-final game was in fact the real national championship game. I kinda started to like him after that.

He might have been trying to say that they made enough to keep them ahead, but I thought it was a bit strange too.

The hack a horn also took us out of rhythm. We went what seemed minutes at a time without even getting a real shot off.

FTs weren't great and the Hack a longhorn strategy helped Baylor get back into the game. however it was really the Longhorns shooting that went cold in the 2nd half that cost them. After shooting over 50% in the 1st half texas finished with a 42% FG%. After going 3/5 from 3 in the 1st half they went 3/10 for the entire game.

Texas simply played one of their worse halves of the season and still managed to win by 9. That is a very good sign.

I think it hurt Texas by not going to the bench. Barnes obviously didn't like the matchups out there but you can't win many games only playing 6 guys for the most part.

And where did Balbay go. After finding discovering his offensive touch he threw up a donut.

Balbay can't be effective if he's driving into a zone against 3 starters who are 6'9" or taller. And Lord knows he isn't going to jack up shots unless the shot clock hits 2 seconds. He needed to be better at distribution yesterday.

And Dunn showed the same thing that Walker or Vucevic showed earlier in the season: Barnes doesn't adjust when one guy takes over the game. Hamilton and Johnson even stated it in postgame quotes... when an opponent gets his team back into the game (or takes over), they just keep playing the same way. It was kind of sorry to keep giving him the same looks over and over again, but on the bright side I guess Joseph will be a better defender for it late in the season.

Maybe it's our quickness or whatever, but if we're able to run a "Utah" style offense, I don't see why we can't steal defensive arrangements and plays for when we run into buzzsaws. I guess our lead was so huge yesterday that it didn't matter as much, but we're taking an opportunity for granted with March coming up.

Yeah, I don't think the guys could have guarded Dunn any better. He was just lights out good the 2nd half.

I do think Barnes might have gotten brown into the game a little earlier to help the offense in the 2nd half. Like a poster said above, Balbay was having difficulty driving the lane aginst Baylor's big athletic players. Plus, he wasn't able to distrubute as well.

Also, the Baylor adjustment was to sag even further off of Balbay, knowing he typically doesn't shoot jumpers, and using the "extra" player to cheat over to Hamilton, and to run at other offensive threats (Johnson, Thompson, Joseph).

When Brown did come in they had to guard him, which opened up shots for the other players as well. The problem then was we just didn't hit the shots, and couldn't drop the freethrows.

This same chain of events is, I think, what happened agains UCONN earlier in the year and we wound up losing. I think this stragegy will be used against us the rest of the year.

If we can just make a few shots, and shoot 60% plus freethrows, we should be ok.

Texas shot poorly in the second half, shots they easily could have made, and Dunn shot that much better.

Teams always look better when their shots go in.
