free throws

seems Horns has gotten better shooting frees in recent games; I know that in a couple of games they were well over 75%..... any one have any stats in regard to this??

I remember when Memphis was playing in the championship games a couple years back and the announcer said that no team has ever won the national championship shooting less than 70% for the year, which they were under - and sure enough they lost, but I do think they shot their free throws well in that game.

Before Mizzou they were really showing signs of life. 3 previous games they shot 79%. What that tells me is they can shoot FT's. They're not destined by their DNA to always shoot crappy from the line.

Hook'em!!!

Gem, no. I didn't say or imply anything about opponent free throws. Being 280th in the country I assume the other team is better at shooting them. In a close game a quality coach will take advantage of the fact that we aren't very good at making them.

When TT got the ball around the 4:30 mark (the only time he touched the ball in the last 6-7 minutes), I was shocked Mizzou did not foul him right away.

Jim, you is correct:

"Chalmers' game-saving 3 came after Memphis missed four of five free throws that would have put the game and the title out of reach. It completed a comeback from nine points down with 2:12 left.
The ending made a mockery of Memphis coach John Calipari's theory that his players, ranked 339th of the country's 341 teams with 59 percent free-throw shooting, didn't have to be good because they would always come through when the stakes were highest."

Maybe that announcer said that no team has ever won it all shooting less than 60% free throws on the year rather than 70%. Dont remember.

My boys and I couldn't believe Mizzou didn't foul Tx every possession in the last 3-4 minutes.

Gem, kinda.......its called extending the game and any coach will do it knowing the other team can't make FT's.

59% tonight........guess it wasn't close.
