Free itunes software to mp3's?

You can do this in Itunes, but it's a pain in the butt. First, burn them from Itunes to a cd.

Then go to iTunes to edit-preferences-advanced-importing and change the "import using" file from AAC to MP3.

Then, put the new CD back in the computer and import it to iTunes. You'll then have the original AAC copy of the song and a new MP3 compatible copy of the song.

This is the only easy way to do it. Stop shopping iTunes until they make all of their music DRM-free.

Amazon MP3

Amazon also has a higher bit rate. For music you've already purchased, you can see if any of it is iTunes +, which is their DRM-free music - you just have to pay to convert the music that is available as +.

The technique in the post above is the only way I know to convert, but I remember several threads a while back that discussed this and I think it can be done - there just isn't one, easy to use software, to do it.

amazon mp3 is a nice service. i've bought some stuff there recently and it's cheaper than itunes. their bitrate is higher but the codec of mp3 is slightly less efficient than aac. so sound-wise i don't think there's much of a difference. but i recommend amazon mp3 as well.
