Free Bulletin Board software?

RC Didnt Offer

Ok, so I'm no techie so bear with me. I would like to find some way for my little business network to share ideas, post questions, etc. on a bulletin board. I've found some free software to use (phpbb) but I think I'd need a site to host the board.

Does anyone know of a basic, free site that will host your bulletin board without the pop-ups/cheesiness of some of the ones I've seen? I know I could set up a yahoo group if need be.

Any one have something better?

Can you not afford 7-10 bucks a month to host a site? Go to powweb.com. Free is a pipedream much like 'no late fees'.

concur with the free advice. You might be able to find a free site but odds are the performance and service will suck.

phpBB is the best free out out there.

most hosts offer "one click installs" for phpbb that's very very easy.

make sure your host supports php and offers at least 1 sql database.

phpBB isn't too bad at all. Personally, I like the administrative options available in vBulletin, but if you only have a small site, or only plan to have a small site at first, phpBB is pretty straightforward and easy to use.

A group of coders from another well-known bbs system have developed a new free bbs called Simple Machines.

As easy to install as phpbb but with much better admin features. I think it's faster as well, and the default install doesn't look as toy-ish as phpbb's.

"Free is a pipedream much like 'no late fees'"

I appreciate the snide comments. I dont have late fees with netflix so I guess its not a pipedream. There are free bbs like the ones mentioned above so I guess thats not a pipedream either. I can find an adequate host between the lot of us but it didnt hurt to ask, hence my journey over to Horn Depot.

Snide remarks? Why do you take it personally as it was not meant that way. Go ahead and jump into bed with 'free', give us an update down the road.

I didn't think Bottom Line's remarks were snide. I took his original comment to mean "you get what you pay for." A lot of the free options aren't really free because they are loaded with ads. That's all he was saying.

i just "got" phpbb and the amount of features avaliable blows me away. i dont think you'll need that kind of organization/features unless your site has 10000+ members.
