Fredericksburg BB's

Can someone recommend a good B&B in Fredericksburg, or in the nearby area? I am taking the family here for a couple nights in August. What activities do you recommend other than the obvious shopping on Main Street?

How far is the Pedernales Falls State Park from here, and is it worth the drive?

Thanks in advance.

We've stayed here with kids and they really enjoyed it. It is a little outside of town (on the way to Lukenbach), but there are animals and lots of room to run around. But I haven't stayed there in a few years.

It's about 45 miles from Fredericksburg to Pedernales Falls State Park, which offers camping, hiking and some restricted areas for swimming in the river, but little else unless the river'si at flood stage which makes the falls and the gorge fairly spectacular.

Also consider Enchanted Rock State Park which offers a pretty easy walk to a nice view from the top of a very large granite dome, plus a shorter road trip from Fredericksburg.

I recommend that scenery over Perdernales Falls unless seeing water is important to you.

The Lyndon Johnson Texas White House is in another state park in Stonewall, even nearer to Fredericksburg.

The Johnson family home will eventually be opened fully to the public for tours, but still isn't at this time to my knowledge.

So I don't believe there is enough there to see at this time to make it as interesting as the excellent Nimitz Museum on Fredericksburg's Main Street,

My wife's from Fredericksburg, so I've never stayed at a B&B there.

If you haven't ever been to Enchanted Rock., I would suggest that destination and taking the trip to and from it using a circular route which would include driving the Willow City Loop on your return.

You can take Milam Street north from the west end of Main Street (Hwy. 290) to get to Enchanted Rock.

Milam Street is a Texas State Farm to Market Road, but I don't know the number, so look for the appropriate signage.

There are some interesting restored homes to drive past on this route.

When you leave Enchanted Rock, you can continue on that farm road a few more miles to Hwy. 16 and turn right, thus heading back to Fredericksburg using a different route.

Th back forty is a nice place. We always stay there in the little stone cabin. They added a couple of new ones the last time we were there, but they didn't look much like cabins. I would definitely ask the stone cabin. The place has a pond with a hammock next to it. It's very relaxing and about 2 minutes from town.

Thanks to everyone for their advice!

Is Der Lindebaum the best place for german food in the city?

Stay at the Fredericksburg Brewing Company. Beer, Bed, and Breakfast. Their German pub grub is excellent.

For German food, check out the Bavarian Inn on the west end of town. They have great schnitzel. (I grew up there)
