Fred Reed Knocks it out of the park

Cash and Carry said a month or so ago that the border situation might necessitate sending US forces into Mexico. My recollection is that he said we would do it only with the invitation of the Mexican government.

Somebody needs to tell the gov we already have guys operating against the goon squads down there.

As a practical matter, sending in troops is not really an option because no Mexican government could stand the internal political heat that would come from doing so.

Perry knows that so his comments were more political bs to please the uninformed, which is a large part of the voting public, especially as applied to Mexico.

Keep in mind that Fred is a wonderful entertainer and specializes in hyperbole. He used to be a marine and a military correspondent and now lives in Mexico, from where he drops these little bombs with great frequency.

He is funny and often makes great points but you have to take what he says with a block of salt.

^^ Thanks. I think the problem requires a multiple approach.

1. Personally, I believe that we need to change our drug laws to make much of a difference. What happens when drug cartels tell american agents that they need to ignore a certain border crossing between 1:00 and 4:00am? They can be pretty persuasive. Do you want your family to mysteriously disappear or would you prefer $1000 per month for your cooperation?

2. I think if we are going to waste money in wars that are thousands of miles away, we would be better off spending the money helping build infrastructure in Mexico. The problem with this idea is that we don't have the money to waste these days. We need a return on our investment that is quantifiable.

3. We need to reform immigration. I don't want to get into specifics for obvious reasons.

I actually know alot of people that speak spanish and english. Not sure if he has spent much time in Texas.

Didn't he renounce his US citizenship?

People in Germany speak French and English, often better English than Americans.

When you invade a country a few times, you should speak their language. It makes sense that somne Germans would speak French. We havent invaded Mexico recently but you would think they would all learn English since so many of them come over here. We accomodate them, however, by providing spanish only schools and every call center/warnings with spanish options. Since I have family that are German immigrants and have been to Germany a few times, I can say that this idiot is wrong about German's speaking better English than Americans. Often isnt the word I would use. More like very rarely will you find someone that speaks better English than the avg. American.

It is most strange. The world globalizes, but American doesn't, living in surreal isolation.

We are the most globalized country on the planet. Our culture, products and corporations are everywhere. Our people are a bit isolated but that is what happens when it takes 8-15 hours plus on a plane to get to another decent country. We have canucks to the North, a third world country to the south with some nice resorts and oceans between us and Europe or Asia.
I can drive through 5 different countries in Europe in a day, each with its own definitive culture. I can drive for a day here and not get out of Texas. Don't be such a moron, of course culturally, we will be a bit more isolated here.
