Freaking Angels don't lose!

Rangers are playing some of their best ball of the season and still can't gain a game on the Angels...

Don't give up just yet - there are still a lot of games to be played. Admittedly, the Angels were favored to win the AL West for good reason - but the Rangers have gelled a year ahead of schedule. It'll come down to the last week in September.

There's been several of these games I thought they'd go down and still pulled it out. 7-game Win Streak leads the Majors with R's and Dodgers next at 5. At least we're in the playoff mix - and the team has to feel good given all the flu problems - gives them an excuse for feeling like they are playing with obstacles - which they are.

the streak cannot continue... they are bound to lose some upcoming games againt better competition.

Yesterday was perfect, actually....Seattle, LA and Boston all lost. The Rangers have a chance to be there in the end if the pitching holds up.

Could be the first exciting August in quite some time!

I keep thinking the same thing. IIRC, when the Rangers were up by 3-4 games they were 10-11 games over .500. Now they are 12 games over .500 and 3.5 back. The Angels only lose when they play Texas.

Dude: I think you have correctly ascertained the problem... we have been getting to 11 games over for about six weeks now. The fact that we are now 12 games over means that we have been a .500 ballclub over that timespan. It will take at least 92 wins to win the AL West, which of course is 22 games over .500. We can do it, but we have to avoid disasters like the Mariners series and the entirety of interleague play.

Finally, Angels lose 2 in a row. We're only 2.5 games back, again!

The Angels are winning, but it sure as hell isn't b/c of great pitching. It seems like they give up 5+ every damn night. They're simply bludgeoning teams to death. Their pitching, aside from Weaver, has been atrocious most of the season.

Does anyone else see the irony in that fact? The Rangers and Angels have almost flip-flopped in the makeup of their respective teams. The frustrating part of that for me stems from the fact that this approach never really got Texas anywhere for years, yet, the Angels are losing games maybe once per month? WTF.

OUE, I know ... I was thinking about that very thing last night as I was watching the Rangers. How very odd it is that the formula that spelled doom for Texas seems to keep Anaheim afloat.

It's wrong, I tell ya! Just wrong!

Rangers!

If you would have told me that it was the pitching that was/is keeping the Rangers in the running I would have lost all my money on that bet.

Also, Hamilton has lost everything at the plate right now. He has no discipline at all. He will swing at pitches that were never in the strike zone. The opposing pitchers know that they don't even have to throw strikes and they can get him out.

This thread deserved a bump. Just took 3 of 4 from the M's and lose another game in the standings. Just winning series isn't enough, to keep ground with the Angels, it appears that we have to sweep everyone.

Angels have all the injuries and yet play lights out. Well, Rangers have chance now. Injuries mounting up, time to match the Angels.

Another week, another 6 games where the Angels seemingly get 10+ runs/game. ****, will they ever cool off?

We're still playing great, but still losing ground.

The Law of Averages is about to do it's usual thing. You can't fight it either. It's going down to the last week for this years team.

Freaking Angels finally lose but so do the Rangers. The series coming up with LAA is the most important series for Texas in a long time. They sweep and they are right there in it. They get swept and it may be over.

The Rangers really need a win this afternoon in Oakland, then two of three in Anaheim. That would keep them in both the AL West race and the Wild Card race - remember, the Bosox are playing the Yankees this weekend; so far, Boston has pwn3d New York. If New York can reverse the curse, Texas could gain significant ground in the Wild Card.

But the important thing isn't watching the standings, it's taking care of the opponent you're playing - and the Rangers have not taken care of the A's so far this series. Focus first on this afternoon - then we can look to Anaheim!

The A's have been a thorn in our side all year. Still though, I can't believe they might sweep us 4 straight.

Good grief.

I'm only "watching" by checking online box score updates. I see throwing error on Saltalamacchhiaportabella then I see Teagarden is 0-1. Did Salty get hurt or get pulled after the error or is my box score update just wrong?

2-2 mid 4th, BTW

Still 6-3, Good Guys, bottom of nine. C.J. is on after Frankie pitched the eighth. Struck out Cust, struck out Nomar.

You think today's the last day of CJ's Closing job? Frankie's been nails in the 8th. Methinks he's ready. You could see the doubt on everyones faces in that Ranger dugout in the 9th inning.
