Frankfurt airport

I am flying to Rome in a couple weeks, connecting through Frankfurt both there and back. I flew this summer through London Gatwick and it was not a nice experience.

How is Frankfort- it looks like on the way over I have to clear customs, but not on the way back through.

Never had a problem going through customs in Frankfurt. It always seemed to flow very smoothly.

If you are connecting in Frankfurt, then be prepared for a long hike and transfer time if you are changing airlines.

I landed on a Lufthansia jet and had to connect to Alitalia. They took me via bus from the plane back to the terminal and it took me 30 minutes to get to the Alitalia gate just to get back on a bus to go to the plane again. It turns out that the Alitalia jet was parked right next to the Lufthansia jet I arrived on. Since there aren't enought gates, many of the planes are parked on the tarmac and you have to transfer via bus.

It's fine. Very strict in the German tradition, so don't leave a bag sitting around while you run to the restroom, or you're liable to cause an evacuation. The Lufthansa Executive Lounge is nice if you have a long layover. You can pick up some Cuban cigars if you're interested.

Travelled through Frankfurt monthly for several years. Its painless.

If you have a long layover, try a city tour. Wife and I did this recently, and had a pretty good time. This means we had tankards of beer on the old city square.

Made for good sleep on the next leg.

I flew into Frankfurt twice this summer and out once. Customs was easier than in the US and a helluva lot better than the full body feel (including package squeeze) I got in Amsterdam.

Frankfurt has a tram that I would use over a bus, but I have never transferred in Frankfurt, so I am not sure.

What airline are you flying? Customs wasn't bad but I was connecting to an American flight back to Dallas so there was no lounge. No lounge sucks. The airport is under a lot of renovation and there aren't a lot of places to sit if you are in one of the wings under construction.

Also, they have a casino in the main terminal. Stay away from it. I walked in and took a look at the blackjack rules and walked right out.

They have or had a great electronic music club. Tekno Club at Dorian Grey.

I just went through there on Monday. All I had to do for customs was wait in line for five minutes and get my passport stamped.

I flew in on the Lufthansa flight out of DFW and had to go to a different terminal to get to my Finnair flight to Helsinki. It was a lot of walking and a tram ride, then going through security and getting the pat-down, and finally taking the bus out to the plane on the tarmac.

My incoming flight was late and I only had an hour to get to the connecting flight. I made it with about five minutes to spare. Unfortunately, my bags didn't make it, they arrived about five hours after I did.

My experience was the same as MGS. If you are transferring carriers just be aware of the time it takes to get to the other gate.

Thanks! Good news I am on Lufthansa all the way through to Rome. And also flying business so I can use their lounge!

Bummer about the casino- love black jack!
