Comedians should be funny, or at least amusing. He is annoying more than anything. He's not quite as annoying as Robin Williams or Jim Carey, but once you are on the annoying side of the scale, it really doesn't matter to what extent.
FC is hilarious. He may not be revolutionizing the comedic profession, but he has skill and talent. The idea of bouncing between characters on a per-phrase basis, having different characters respond to one another (i.e. not 'frank' but the characters are interacting), is akin to performance art, and takes tons of skill and practice. Hardly lame.
I saw him on Letterman last night and I laughed. So I guess he is funny. I was basing my opinions on him mainly from the Fox pregame stuff..which is stupid.
there's so much wrongness in this thread it's almost not worth posting.
frank himself is hilarious, especially when doing standup. he's an extremely talented impressionist.
having said that, i think large problems arise when you try to translate impressionism into a sitcom format. this transition simply does not work, and makes his characters come across as abrasive.
to reiterate, frank the man is quite funny, but he should stick to standup impressions.
funny on the radio, he comes on one of the sports stations here in Miami as a guest and banters with the hosts and callers and switches personas about every other word and it's hilarious.
never seen him do standup so I can't comment on that.
his tv show and that gameday stuff on fox suck [an unpleasant thing], mucho lameo. Those set pieces don't play to his comedic strengths, when he is in costume it's like putting a straightjacket on his humor.
