Four prospects at Game Saturday Night

In case you didn't see this, Kirk Bohls has this in his column from the AAS

"The buzz at the Erwin Center for Texas' upset of No. 2-ranked OU couldn't help but enhance the prospects of landing a couple of freshman basketball players who were on hand Saturday night. Taking in the game were a pair of highly touted freshmen, 6-10 Isaiah Austin of Mansfield Legacy — whose father and uncle were NBA players —and 6-7 forward Zach Peters of Plano Prestonwood Christian, as well as sophomores 6-3 guard Julien Lewis of LaMarque and 6-5 Houston Bellaire guard Sheldon McClendon. "

Names to keep in mind for the future.

Austin is the best of the bunch, and the one that Texas has the worst chance at.

At this point I'll be surprised if Texas doesn't end up with at least two of the other three.

SL Express, why do you say Austin is unlikely for Texas? Does he have familial conections elsewhere or something? Any idea who leads on the kid at this point?

Thanks for identifying these kids.

I was downstairs inside the Red River entrance, waiting for the arena to open upstairs. This Austin kid was standing there with another player. You talk about TALL. But REED thin!!

But that kid, Austin, has the most humongous hands I've ever seen! I couldn't believe it.

SL: Can you give some more information on the guys? Playing styles, our chances at them, who are the best, where they will be ranked when the ratings come out? Thanks as usual.

Austin and Peters are just freshmen in high school. Austin is a high end guy who might end up somewhere around 7'. Zach Peters is about 6'7 now. Probably done growing, but we'll see. He's a year older than his class. Polished all around player.

The two guards are sophomores. Triple threat players. Probably more suited for off the ball than on at the next level, but some point skills as well.

Sheldon just wrapped up the season for Bellaire, as they unexpectedly got knocked out of the playoffs in the 1st round. He is a very nice player. Long arms, good jump shot, can finish strong at the rim. He plays the passing lanes well and get's easy steals. Very smart player. I would like to see him hit the boards more given his size, compared to most high school players. Texas has offered him.

I have seen him play a lot this year and will over the next several years since I am local in Houston and I also went to Bellaire (I keep up with the basketball team even though it's been a long time since I played/went to school there).

Eventually, I can put some game film online. I just haven't done it yet. It's still in my camcorder along with some other games.

I've seen Zach Peters play about 5 times at different AAU tourneys. He's one of the most polished young players I've seen since I saw OJ Mayo play in the 8th grade in Kentucky. He is very fundamentally solid for his age, and if he grows anymore, he's gonna be great. I think he could play the 4 in college at his current height, but not in the NBA without a few more inches. He seems like a good kid as well, and I also like his Dad from the short conversations I've had with him, but I'm not sure why they held him back last year.
