maybe their definition of fielder's choice is different than mine. I though fielder's choice meant it was an out unless they describe it differently, saying the batter was safe. Maybe someone who saw the game can help clarify.

In describing a fielder's choice, they have to state where the out occurred. It's not a hit, since the ball was such that a normal play would result in the batter being out. It's not an error unless the only reason all runners are safe is due to a mishandle by a fielder. Furthermore, you can never assume an out at the plate.

So, there you go. No out recorded at home, as runner beat the throw.

It is called that because the fielder chose to to attempt to get another runner out besides the batter and was unable to do so even though he didn't commit an error. The same could work if you say hti a ground ball to 3B. Maybe the runner was moving on the pitch and the 3B tried to go to second for the force. If the runner at 2nd was safe and the relay to first was not in time then the hitter reached on a fielder's choice yet there wasn't an error commited by the defense.
