Fort Worth / Dallas Dog Obedience Trainers

I have a friend with a 2-3 year old Doberman. The dog is a sweetheart, but he needs to be leash trained and learn some general manners.

Can anyone recommend a good obedience program / dog trainer in Fort Worth, or Dallas? I'd like to spring for "charm school" for the dog, as a birthday present for the owner.

You might consider Man's Best Friend. They have 3 locations in the DFW area.

Man's Best Friend

I mention them only because I have actually used them before & (from what I know) they have a good reputation.

However, I did have a couple of problems with them. #1 they ain't cheap. #2 I felt like our dogs might have been mistreated during their stay. They looked noticably slimmer & were a little skiddish...especially when we broke out the coke can with pennies inside. The trainer told us if they were acting up to just shake the can. We did, and our dogs would run for cover like they were being shot at. Even though it worked, we quit using the can.

You might try Country Acres Kennel in Arlington/Mansfield. They are on 157 south of I20. We've had good luck with them. We also use them for boarding on occasion..

I used a place called petperfect when my dog was a puppy 9 years ago and was happy with the results. They pride themselves in their positive training method and they really teach you a lot about dogs in the process. Looks like they are still in business:

We used Man's Best Friend (Grand Prairie) for their 2-week "book camp" (although we referred to it as summer camp). They did a nice job and we really liked the trainer. And we board our dogs there. The funny thing is that our dogs LOVE IT there. They go crazy with happiness when we drop them off. So much so, that it is kinda embrassing, like they don't have good lives with us. When they break away and literally run into back area, the kennel attendants are astounded.

Although the training is expensive, they get lifetime free follow-up private lessons. We have used quite a few of these and it helps soften the blow (if you use them).
