Former UH QB transferring to Texas

I don't know if he'll be an impact guy, but I'd feel a lot better with another warm body on the depth chart. I'm still not sold that Swoops is ready to be the primary backup next year.. and for that matter if Ash will even stay healthy.

I found this part of the article interesting too:

... "only six percent of high school football players reach the college ranks."

This may be a key development, as the guy may allow us to redshirt Heard, as the third QB behind Ash and Swoopes. here is the Austin American Statesman article. The Link

Check out the highlight video with the article. You will be pleasantly surprised. The guy is not bad at all. I am actually surprised how good he is (and I am one who takes the highlight videos as no big deal). He looks legit. He was injured at the juco and must have gone under the radar.

For everyone screaming that Texas needed to fix things, if this is what the new powers think is necessary to 'fix things' then yes, this is what it's come to. Why so negative a spin?

I like the idea in case Ash goes down and Swoopes turns out to be less than hoped for. I don't know anything about evaluating players but he does seem to get rid of the ball quickly once he decides to throw it.

When you have only 1 experienced QB, 1 soph who has hardly 30 snaps under his belt and 1 true freshman whom you would like to redshirt anyway, yes, it is a desperate situation.

It has nothing to do with the program being in a desperate condition. Only that the QB spot being like that, with the previous staff unable to hold on to two guys who transferred out.

Rather than be scornful of a guy who decides to come and be available, spending his own money while he actually has scholarship offers from some small schools, let us be thankful to the guy. He may never get to play (hopefully wouldn't get to play, actually) but he is the kind of Longhorns we want.. Yes, desperately, right now, at that spot.

UPDATE (3:00 p.m.): Los Angeles Harbor College quarterback Bram Kohlhausen has not transfered to Texas.

The Houston native and former Houston Cougar told the Austin American-Statesman's Brian Davis that, "UT hasn't given (Kohlhausen) a promise on any walk-on spot yet."

It's not sad.
We have ample talent at QB.
Unless Ash's health comes into play.
It's good to have a little more depth so Heard can redshirt.
Nobody is "hoping" for a walk on.
It's just news to talk about.
You're like a woman I dated that put a negative spin on everything.

Yes, I say we have a lot of talent.
I did not say any of it was proven.
If Ash stays healthy I think he could prove to be a real baller.
I think Swoopes has exhibited the talent if he can be developed and coached up.
I would have no problem if Strong named Heard the starter.

Ideally, Ash stays healthy and plays well.
Swoopes gets meaningful snaps and the transfer backs him up.
Heard redshirts.

But stuff happens so I think adding to our depth is a good idea.

Our problem QB play from last year graduated.
