I suspect it is more a case of, "Momma, they bein mean to me", and a lawyer, who can't afford TV commercials, seeing his chance to get free publicity, or at least enough to pay his fee to Tarrant County to be able to ride on the back bumper of ambulances.

I can see that in this scenario and there certainly are plenty of ambulance chancing lawyers in Tarrant County that would take this case!
 
From my legal perspective, this case has more legs than just a disgruntled athlete.

The lawsuit makes specific medical malpractice allegations that the athlete was repeatedly over treated with “last resort” cortisone injections without trying less invasive methods first. These repeated injections allegedly led to the degenerative condition.

The lawsuit even quotes the NCAA medical guide which supports the athlete’s allegations.
