former BU coach Mickey Sullivan has passed on

He was a good guy. I'll never forget the day that Jason Smith created the "natural disaster" in Waco. I think Mickey was laughing on the inside.

RIP Mickey Sullivan

There were a lot of disasters at the old ball park natural and otherwise. The Easter Sunday doubleheader after a rain out Saturday comes to mind back in late 70's.

Or in 1981 I believe, in the Friday game, Chris "Boots" Campbell watching the Baylor pitcher warm up between the on deck circle and home plate. This was too close for the pitcher's liking and threw a warm up pitch at him.

The next day during warm ups for the game this huge guy runs into the ball park shouting which one of you guys was throwing at Boots? It was Longhorn "All American" and future first round draft choice Kenneth Sims. Nobody from Baylor answered, so we politely pointed him out.

Yes, Mickey was a great, player, coach, and human being. He could really go after an umpire though when provoked. His face would turn beet red and in that green Baylor uniform he looked like a stubby Christmas tree catching fire.
