i would go with a chevy if you are looking at getting a 4 x 4 truck. my father purchased one last year and he loves it. i've driven it a few times and it is great. for reference, he had a ford truck before it that he had a lot of trouble with and since owning the new truck has said he'll never buy ford again.
i know there are stories for both sides and that this is a hotly contested issue, but at the very least, i can give you nothing but positive marks for the chevy 4 x 4.
Toyota is rated higher in more categories on Intellichoice than Chevy.
Ford isn't even in the discussion.
So you can be a meathead and say "Fordor Chevy" or you can actually buy the better vehicle.
that being said, Chevy won best overall value of the year for 4WD 1/2 ton pickup, which is what you want:The Link
Of course the Silverado is made in CANADA, so if you want to Buy American you should go with the Tundra (made in the USA) or the F150 (also made in USA but inferior).
The difference for me was interior. Most people are not going to use their trucks to go to Baha, so get what fits you best. The inside of all GM products looks the same. My wife has a Yukon and the Chevy interior looks the same as the GMC Yukon. I wanted something different.
That was the reason I picked Ford. Both are good trucks. If you do not care about the interior buy a Nissan Titan. It is better than both for towing and is a nice truck. I was really surprised at my friend's Nissan.
You will get all kinds of comments about how one is better than the other, because somebody's uncle had a cousin that could not keep his Ford/Chevy on the road. Just make up your own mind after driving both. Just do not put a NASCAR sticker on the back!
I don't really have any loyalty issues to the different brands but we go through a lot of trucks in our business. We will typically by a crew cab 2wd truck and sell it at around 75,000 miles (in 18 to 24 months). What we have found is that Ford trucks have a lower cost of ownership and a higher resale value vs Chevy. The biggest difference between the two is that Chevy parts on average are more expensive then Ford. The resale value for the Ford is higher but it is not really meaningful (less then $300). Having driven all of them, the new Ford truck is better then the Chevy in almost every way imaginable. The Ford is more solid, drives better, turns better, has better exterior and interior fit and finish. This is not very surprising as the Ford is on a newly developed platform and has been extensively reworked. The chevy is using the same platform developed seven or eight years ago and aside from cosmetic changes it is the same truck. There are now a couple of Nissan Titans in the fleet but there are not enough to compare yet. My initial review of the Titan is that it has the best engine of the three by a long shot. It also has a 5 speed transmission and it keeps the engine in its sweet spot better then the Ford or Chevy. The interior fit and finish is not quite as good as Ford but better then Chevy.
