Won't start. Battery is new, starter is good, relay switch is good. Is the chip in my key the possible problem, and is there a cheap way to bypass the security system, or get a new key without going to a dealership? thanks

That system is called the immobilizer system, and it can be the reason the car won't start. It makes it difficult to diagnose. It may have to go to the dealer, but ask your regular shop that works on Fords if they can deal with it if it turns out to be a problem with the immobilizer system.
It is not easy to bypass, otherwise it would be easy to steal the truck. The computer must recognize a signal from the key for the truck to start.
Maybe it is a conventional problem like a bad ignition switch or a wiring issue.

I don't know if this is the same problem or not, but I have an '04 Mustang GT and every now and then when I put the key in the ignition and give it a crank, nothing happens... maybe a quick flash of some lights on the dash, but no clicks... nothing... When that happens, I usually take the key out, turn it 180 degrees, and try again. It always eventually starts up after 2-3 tries. Maybe it's a Ford thing???

Might also be something as simple as the shifter isn't all the way in Park, or your foot isn't depressing the brake pedal enough.

Took it to Ford, and they haven't been able to figure it out yet. They say it's something to do with the PATS, chip in the key not making recognition with blah, blah, blah. Wish I had my 77 Bronco, no chips, no security system. The good old days...
