For You Firefox Users

The February issue of Wired has Blake Ross on the cover. Haven't read the corresponding article yet, hopefully it will be a good read.

Decided to post this here instead of starting another thread on Firefox. If I am already running IE 6.0 on my system with plugins such as Acrobat Read, Flash Player, Quick Time, Jave, etc., do I still need to download the plugins for Firefox or will the plugins I already have work for both browsers?

Hmm...Did a little research. It seems you have to download the new plugins for Flash and Shockwave, but not for Java, Adobe, or Quick Time. Not sure about any others.

I think when you run into a need for a plugin - clicking on a .pdf link, for example - Firefox will offer to download the plugin.

You should get the latest version of Java manually, however. It's Version 1.5.0. The Link (The offline install is recommended.)

Can I download Firefox and have both IE and Firefox available? I'd like to try it out, but I'm not yet ready to ditch IE.

you can have as many browsers on your system as you would like. opera, icab, mozilla, firefox, etc....

firefox is faster, has a built in google search, better find, support for rss feeds (big plus), and cannot be manipulated like ie so it is safer to use.

You'll want to keep IE for a number of reason: some sites (particularly financial) still run better or only run on IE; you'll want an alternative; good luck rooting IE out of your system anyway.
