For Real ....Herman “IS” Done!!!

I did. I’m wrong a lot, but I was right on that one.
I believe you are rewriting history a bit. You may be looking at the cerca 2005-2009 version of MB, not the 2010-2013 version that oversaw a rapidly diminishing program of his doing. Had Mack not become lazy from a recruiting standpoint and not made a terrible decision to change the offense — counter FBS trend, I might agree with you. But those two observations are the reality and for that reason, he was and should have been removed.

Strong was a politically motivated choice, and a poor one. Herman was a mistake that few of us saw coming. We couldn’t have predicted his extraordinary poor judgment and lack of maturity.

The next great Texas HC is out there, right now, and he might not he Urban Meyer. We just have to find him.

No great HC was born great. He emerged. He developed. That’s true of them all, including Saban, Meyer and Sweeney. There will be a next great HC, a next DRK.

Auburn also supposed to be looking at Tony Elliott, Brent Venables, Steve Sarkisian, Billy Napier and maybe Lane Kiffin
They should grab Napier if they can get him. Venables would be another good choice.

Napier is likely to build up a big time winner at some major program. Heck, I’d be happy enough if he ended up here. (If UM says no). On top of his propensity to beat up teams with superior talent, he could also recruit the swamplands effectively at a bigger platform, and butt heads with Big Ed.

Napier sounds good, my first pick of the not UM crowd is Matt Campbell! He’s not a narcissist like TH might be. Dont know as much about Napier, but I know the talent pool in SW LA were he recruits. ULA-LA has not been ranked since I have followed CFB closely. This is as good as they’ve been maybe ever. And he loves to run the ball.

The question will be is Napier this year's Herman (can recruit; coaching ability on the upper level Power 5 unknown)? Also, right now besting Big Ed in recruiting should not be the target for Texas).

Huh??? ESPN and 247 have LSU 3rd and Louisiana 90th. Are you talking about a different Big Ed?

Same guy. Texas worry is Alabama, tOSU, ou and aggy. Most Louisiana guys Texas would target are going to LSU or Olé Miss anyway.

The real question is does Texas reach again or make a great hire even if it means waiting a year or two. Texas' recruiting is at the bottom now so it cannot get any worse.

Okay. Misread the post.

One of the worst decisions in the history of the program.

One of the worst decisions in the history of the program.

Back in the day, we used a zone blocking scheme. It was well suited to our personnel. We were actually good with it in 2006 even though we had to use a skinny freshman QB from a small town (it helped that we had several holdover OLs from the '05 team). We took a step back in 2007 but then Chris O came on hard in 2008 running behind that same OL scheme - and it could/woulda/shoulda been us vs. UM/Florida for the MNC. The zone scheme did get us to the 2009 title game. (although we have to admit the Bama NFL-sized DL did give us some trouble up front). I will always believe, like many of you, that we would have won that game if ....

But the bigger point for now is that, up until this point in time, we were doing exceptionally well on offense with the spread with a zone blocking scheme. We were crazy good actually. But then Colt got hurt against Bama and Mack went berserk (“run the dang ball and play D!”).

Of all of the ramifications of Mack's decision to abandon the spread/zone, the part that made the least sense was this -- here we are THE University OF TEXAS turning its back on the system our recruits had been running most of their football lives -- from middle school forward. If you can remember those post-2009 days then you can recall how freaking Baylor and freaking TCU ran circles around us with inferior talent. They were using a version of our system. It was basically the state of TEXAS' system. And they started beating our brains in with it. The efficiency of it was sort of beautiful, starter gets hurt, just plug in another - they had been running it since childhood - some even called it "plug and play."

There were many frustrating things about Mack Brown back then, but this was the single worst part. He put on us the path to mediocrity by switching to a scheme that was "against our nature." We have never recovered from it 11 years later.

Some people expect some type of carefully worded vote of confidence from CDC sometime this weekend
I guess this will be for recruiting purposes since it wont actually mean much other than that

I was not a fan of the lukewarm "vote of confidence" from CDC but ... it did cause the national media to stop talking about us
And, thus, we (hopefully) have been able to perform the necessary due diligence without having to worry about names leaking or any of the national shows taking shots at us again.
So, there's that
Maybe CDC knows what he's doing

The latest from Burton on this topic --

I spent much of Sunday trying to ascertain if the results of Saturday's various conference championship games altered the timeline any whatsoever for the Horns' administration to move forward in its search for a new football coach, despite the public vote of confidence athletic director Chris Del Conte voiced for Tom Herman more than a week ago.

It has not.

The previous timeline I was given was after the bowl games, when all coaches would be available to talk. Based on one conversation with a high-ranking official with knowledge of the situation, the timeline remains the same. We're looking at the post-bowl, post-playoffs timeframe into the New Year.

Could that change?

It's possible. But I was told it is also unlikely. The Horns are wanting to consider multiple coaches, including one who has specifically told Texas emissaries that he would be unwilling to talk until after his team's post-season.

Furthermore, the weekend's results only "stiffened the resolve" of at least one of the three major players, a group that includes Chris Del Conte, Jay Hartzell and Kevin Eltife, to make a coaching change. In other words, the Aggies' near-miss of the CFB playoffs with their fourth-year senior starter at QB combined with a sixth straight conference championship for the Sooners, the latest with a freshman QB, is hitting home. Tom Herman hasn't met the expectations or guideposts set by his own peers.

It is time for a change.

As I have said before, you can’t piss off your superiors (plural) and still keep your job. It’s just a matter is time.

I’d like to understand why they are waiting to remove him unless it is strictly financial, and they are hoping another school will take him off our hands.

Interesting. Though in year's past, once the regular season is over, various coordinators have either announced the move and gone after the bowls, or just up and left before then. If no news this week, I'd tend to lean towards Herman coming back for another year, I fear.

From "the Scoop" - The COACHING HOT BOARD
We’re omitting the unicorns like Nick Saban, Dabo Swinney, and Kyle Shanahan. We’re also excluding Urban Meyer because we’ve been down that road and he’s a no. We do think they’ll make one last call to him, probably after getting down the road a ways with one of these candidates, though we don’t think it will change anything.

We‘ve also heard Kyle Shanahan has been made aware of UT’s interest, but we don’t feel that will materialize into anything worth covering. He just prefers the NFL.

Recency bias is unkind to the first three. Like love, anger, and tribalism, recency bias is also unkind to the human IQ.

1. Brian Kelly, Notre Dame: Best resume in the country for a coach who hasn’t won a national championship.
2. Matt Campbell, Iowa State: Has done more with less in the same conference UT has done less with more in.
3. Dan Mullen, Florida: “Creative” Urban Meyer. Also, “Angry” Brian Kelly. Probably fishing for a bag of money.
4. Gary Kubiak, Minnesota Vikings (OC): Great offense that fits the personnel; a 180 degree shift in personality at the top.
5. Gary Patterson, TCU: Mainly due to familiarity with Del Conte and the thought he’d be able win with UT level athletes.
6. Bryan Harsin, Boise State: Like Will Muschamp, Harsin left a good impression on Texas people while he was in Austin. He’s remembered for making chicken salad out of chicken ****. He’s done well at Boise State. They like his familiarity with the school. Does Harsin like his familiarity with the school? Chris Petersen’s name still carries some weight and Harsin is the closest thing to him.
