For Real ....Herman “IS” Done!!!

FWIW, I posted the South Carolina rumor in here back on Nov 19

The South Carolina 247 mod posted that a source told him Herman might look at them as an option instead of waiting to be fired here. They liked him back on 2015. The other school name that has come up as a landing place for Tom is Vandy
I think we would have ~$15mill buyout for the firing (w/ offsets) (I think its prorated and supposed to be $15.4M if on Dec 1 - but this is from some website and might not be 100% accurate)
Hugh Freeze is now getting over $3M/yr at Liberty in his new contract.
So maybe we could get the Tom buyout down to $10M
Why would he agree? Let's say he was willing to go to SC but had to make a move now. And let's assume he could get something like $4M per from them. A $10 buyout + 3 years at $4M = $22M. Which is better than $15M and is also more than Hugh Freeze will get at his new contract value over the same period of time.
If Tom were to stay, the pay scale is supposed to be
$6M 2020
$6.25M 2021
$6.5M 2022
$6.75M 2023

I'm seeing a bit of a culture clash with Tom to Vandy. Perhaps if one can mature 10+ years over a Summer, it might work.

Note: I don't want the guy to fall flat on his face, and I hope he has a soft landing somewhere. He's really not a bad coach, but coaching at UT is just not the same as coaching at UH.

Vandy loves them some MENSAs
Wait a minute...

MENSA
Genius level intelligence
Goofball immaturity on the sideline
Weird and quirky
Experience in Houston

I've got it: Tom has Rice written all over him.

And Rice is a place where they'll throw a big party, with everybody wearing Vulcan ears and drinking Romulan Ale, if he goes 6-5 or 7-4.

I think all D-1 recruits dream of the NFL. Hell, when I was a senior in high school I dreamt of the NBA even though I had zero D-1 offers. Delusional? Yes I was. So imagine a kid who actually is being courted by the big dawgs, and yes, I include Texas in that category. Those kids are going to go where they think it will help get them get to the NFL. And that's the SEC. It ain't playing for a conference championship by winning one game in October. When the Brockermeyers blew us off, that was telling. Being born orange didn't make a bit of difference to those two boys.

Run,

Aggies move didn’t open anything to the SEC. go back and check the numbers before their move. 350+ Texas kids signing to play football,, and half of those going out of state.

Recruiting violations on every corner. A well known parochial school with its own brothel.

The Aggies’ move may have moved a few South, as Nebraska, Colorado, and Mizzou ceased to be a factor.

Yep. And I get the logic from the "just win one game and you're in" crowd. On paper, it makes great sense. But the situation in the 3D is a bit different: We've won 3 conference championships in 24 years. So we're averaging a conference title once every 8 years.

To me, that isn't much of a competitive advantage at all. In fact, I think we could maintain that average in any league in the country.

What happens in 2025 is still a mystery. But if the B12 is going to survive, it's going to have to get aggressive and make a big splash.

I like Malzahn's offense. Sam would have been perfect for it. I like him better than any other non-UM candidate we've talked about. He beat 'Bama more than anybody else and he had a whole lot less talent.

They didn’t blow Texas off, they blew Herman off. The same thing happened with Ewers...

Bottom line is they didn't come here. You are probably right. It was because of Herman. Doesn't change the outcome. But I think the SEC's legitimate reputation for getting guys to the NFL might have had something to do with it.

Fair enough. But bring the program back to prominence and the future Brockermeyers of the state will be wearing burnt orange.
