For Real ....Herman “IS” Done!!!

AGREED and if Herman or anyone else had the same record they would have been asked to leave. People liked MB so he is viewed differently and cut him slack. True really in all businesses. Tom gets no slack because he is an A$$ hat and he thumbs his nose at the EOT. Simple.

Mack Brown was and is certainly a nicer guy. In person, he was terrific, as I am sure many, probably everyone, here will agree. He is sort of a natural born salesman. That's one reason I like using the numbers. Takes the emotions of it.

I would put that quality near the top of the list for future coaches. If anybody was constructing such a list.

....I kinda like 9 consecutive seasons of ten wins and two championship appearances winning one and could easily have another but for Colt's injury. And then there's the dropped interception that could have gotten us there. Plus not to mention how Mack represented the university as model diplomat and spokesman. Recruits were more likely to stay in state than to sprint out of state. ....

I agree .... but losing to Stoops got old. Mack dominated the conference but for ou (even beat KSU which seemed impossible for awhile). Stoops was the better coach

I am thankful MB was our coach and for all he did. I think Akers and for that matter GD never got the credit he deserved. (Akers lost a Natty by one point/play) I would be happy with an MB type coach and understand we will likely not get a guaranteed Dabo or Sabin. We need to create our own. But MB was unfixable when he left and he helped insure a fix would not easily come to the 40 acres (which made him look petty and solidified Powers as an educated moron). I do not miss either of them.

I lean the complete opposite direction now. I just dont care about nice anymore. Is Saban a nice guy? Meyer? Nice and considerate got us deferring to the collective wisdom of 19-year olds this summer, with predictable results.

College Football is all about the CFP now. This format has only further separated the gap between the top teams and everyone else. Which means that effectively, college football is now about Alabama, Clemson, Ohio State and one rotating team from among UGA, ou, lsu and maybe ND. Everyone not in this bunch is just sort of sitting in the back in economy class. I dont know about you, but I want to be in that top group of teams. I think that is where Texas should be. And, increasingly, I dont care how we get there. If we dont get in there, the rest of it just doesnt matter as much.

I think a lot of people have forgotten that and how they showed us their *** on the way out. Time heals wounds and reshapes memories, I guess.

Forget it boys (and ladies) once player pay comes into being nothing will be as it was. It’s a whole new ball game now and I am not at all certain any true fan is going to like the results. Heck we may long for the days when ‘woke’ was our biggest concern.

There's truth in what you say. Tom Herman wasn't nice to the fans this summer. How did that work out for him? And the program?

He is a defective human being whose recent mistakes in life in are unfortunately playing out in public. But I think its a mistake to overgeneralize and conclude, "therefore the next coach must be a nice guy." The most highly effective and successful people in the US are often not made that way, whether we like it or not.

Yep. It's going to be pro-football lite.

That's why the top 80 or so programs should go ahead and split from the NCAA. Build a new CFA to establish ground rules for pay, opt-outs, etc. And be a self-contained semi-pro system.

It's a misconception to assume one has to be a prick to succeed. Dabo Swinney being the case in point. His outward posture is similar to Mack's. A very Christian, very player-oriented coach. And he's now listed as 1 of the top 3 CFB coaches on the planet.

We've seen abrasive personalities like TH and CS fail just as often as the "nice" guys. TH, for all of his Mensa qualities, just isn't good with the media. CS, who took a drill sergeant approach, is literally the worst coach in school history.

I believe being a good salesman, and having a good personality are very important to this job. It's just the way it is at UT. The political culture here requires it. But if it makes you feel better, those qualities don't require one to be a "nice guy". Mack Brown and Barry Switzer were both excellent salesmen and extremely charismatic. But in terms of morality, they were as different as night and day.

With the player fallout continuing (JQJ makes it official on Twitter) how long until the fire moves to CDC?

Whatever bowl game we play (probable loss), and TH is still around with his excuses, when does the heat move to CDC for his role in this?

The people who think TH should still be here talk about it in on-the-field terms.
The most egregious errors made by TH are off the field. So it makes CDC guilty by association to support him.

The heat ain’t moving any time soon. It’s all on Herman with a little help from his “friends”, none of whom are in Belmont
I want all the heat on Herman and want him gone. If we get to late Jan and TH is still here, with players jumping ship like it's the Titanic, CDC should feel some.

Herman is a dud but who do you replace him with? Another “up and coming”coach? Texas has tried that twice without success. Plus with his huge and foolishly extended contract, is there big money support to can him not for a proven name but for another spin of the roulette wheel?

Any new hire you would have to keep for at least 3 years, so you’re stuck with them for awhile regardless of how well they do or don’t.

I think Texas is stuck with him till next year, which should be a long job interview for the next coach.

But yeah, in this scenario don’t expect much out of a Texas team already needing a major replacement of key positions, with a Dead Man Walking coach.

I've already said I'll stop talking about the man who really should be our new coach, so I won't mention him. But aside from that...

If we can't get UM or another UM "clone" with a national championship under his belt, then I think the number 1 trait we should look for would be:

Sustained winning with lesser talent than his opponents.

Why? Because if such coach could sustain winning with lesser talent, then he could sustain more winning with equal talent, and big-time winning and championships with superior talent. UT usually has superior talent than most of our opponents, and equal talent with OU. Some coaches that fit that bill would be Campbell and Patterson. Yes, I know Patterson had a bit of an off year, but look at his record over the years. This sort of coach is also really good at developing talent--something that many posters seem to believe has been lacking at UT in recent years.

Ray Tanner isn't dealing with a huge budget, but he didn't call CDC to ask how much we'd pay of Herman's salary, saving Tanner $6 million a year. That's Herman's value on the open market.

Perhaps the answer is to go one division below and offer great coaching and education. Holy shat, maybe I'm a professor in waiting....

TFB saying all is not well between CDC and herman and this isn't over.

Hoping they didn't charge for that news, BUT if so, see if you can sell some news releases to them:

1) JFK shot in Dallas

2) Man walks on the moon

3) Reports out that Nick Saban might make a good college football coach

Well I guess we can be a glass half full or a glass half empty judge of of Mack's tenure. I kinda like 9 consecutive seasons of ten wins and two championship appearances winning one and could easily have another but for Colt's injury. And then there's the dropped interception that could have gotten us there. Plus not to mention how Mack represented the university as model diplomat and spokesman. Recruits were more likely to stay in state than to sprint out of state. True Mack couldn't win everything like on the level of Saban and Dabo, but he had us knocking on the door. We could at least sniff it. We are not even close in the last seven seasons.

There’s a reason Colt didn’t get to finish that game. Saban damn sure didn’t tell his defense to stay away from Colt’s shoulder.

Clearly the program is in shambles, and eroding at a pace that I cannot remember ever seeing previously.

I believe that CDC — or CDC plus the others — made a strategic mistake by not terminating Herman, and doing it well before last Saturday. TH has no political capital, and he has virtually no credibility among the prospects and their families.

This ship cannot get righted until he is gone.

Lots of (non-Christian) questions about his S&C program
I dont know the truth about it, but there is some billowing smoke
