Football Games on LHN

Now and in the future, the University's decision when presented with a choice between pushing for a Longhorn football game to be made available to the LHN or leaving it to be shown on a higher tier network will be very indicative of their commitment to the LHN arrangement. If they want LHN to succeed, they'll push for every game to be shown on it. If they're worried about the lack of exposure hurting the program, they'll give LHN no more that the minimum number of games required by the contract (whatever that is), and maybe try to bargain for even less. In my opinion, the University is not ready to abandon the contract, nor does it want to anger the fan base by pushing games onto the LHN where no one can view them, so I predict that the University will secretly arrange for ESPN and the other networks to not pick certain Longhorn games for higher tier telecasts, thereby leaving the LHN as the only option. I dare them to prove me wrong.

They already added a second a game to the LHN last year. As they have said, if a game is not picked up through the Big XII Television Agreement and the game is in Austin, it will be on the LHN, how hard is that to understand? Any Secret deals would be considered Collusion and against the law.

I think they already dared you...

The only difference in how tier 3 games broadcasting between the current situation and prior to LHN is that they have a ready place to put these games without having to go to pay per view. If BigXII doesn't pick them up, I get to watch them on LHN instead of make arrangement for PPV. It's a win/win for cable customers who get it, and hopefully the other cable companies will jump on the bus so the rest of you who want it will be in the same situation.

The part of your post I quoted didn't contain the letters "ESPN" and I didn’t realize that you had insight on the business decisions of ESPN

I get the LHN and I don't understand any of these negative comments toward it.....

Yesterday on Longhorn Extra, they had a segment talking about athletes with appropriate last names (a race car driver with the last name Speed, a poker player with the last name Moneymaker, etc.). They immediately followed this up with an interview with DeLoss Dodds, and the host's first question was, "What line of work would be appropriate for your name?". DeLoss responded with, "You guys need to find more stuff to do."

I don't know about others experiences with him but I speak with him quite often and he's a really funny guy with a good dry sense of humor. I never talk to him about football, network or work type stuff so it's easy to keep it light and funny. He's a good guy and that comment is so him.

Wyoming game will be on LHN. Pretty sure that is a given. UNM the following week is a possibility and Iowa State is other possibility. Could have as many as 3 on LHN next year depending on what the conference has to offer for tiers 1 and 2 those weekends.

Big XII Games on Saturday, Sept. 1st

West Virginia vs. Marshall
Texas vs. Wyoming
OU vs. UTEP
Iowa State vs. Tulsa

Those are the four games that will be televised over:

Savanah State vs. OSU
MIssouri State vs KSU
S Dakota vs Kan
NW State vs TT
Sunday
SMU vs Baylor
TCU does not play this weekend

The Wyoming game will be on ESPN, ABC or Fox, that is my bet.

The New Mexico game, I would double down large on it being on the LHN.

If any Big XII Conference games at home, Iowa State would be the only one I can see.

Now, if the Kansas game is not telecast on any of the other stations, we could get a feed from the Jayhawk network to the LHN, I could see that being negotiated and worked out. The LHN sent them the feed last year and they broadcasted it on the Jayhawk network.

What is this LHN of which you speak?

On a side note, ESPN and Comcast agreed to terms on the Watch ESPN app so now I can watch ESPN, ESPN2, ESPNU, ESPN Buzzer Beater, ESPN Goal Line, and ESPN3 live from my phone or any i device. But not the Longhorn network, which is an ESPN channel. A sign of comcast and ESPN working their **** out? Maybe, but doubtful they'll get LHN. IT would be nice to be able to watch the LHN anywhere I'm at all all times.

I live 2 freaking miles from the stadium, can't get LHN. Till I have the option to get it....it sucks

Three games, so what. If Wyoming, New Mexico, and Baylor are the three, I doubt that would be enough to sway any of the big cable providers to offer the Longhorn Network.

What's funny is Dodds thinks its time to get tough about showing Longhorn football on the Longhorn Network (and that means showing up to three home football games exclusively on the network). Well, with Wyoming, New Mexico, Baylor, Iowa State, TCU, and West Virginia as 2012 home games, you can bet the three will come out of Wyoming, New Mexico, Baylor, and Iowa State. Nice try Dodds, but that kind of selection generates more yawns than interest.

Come September 1, 2012, will we have a major cable provider on board? I won't take that bet.

For me - EVERY FB game is the most important one of the year. whatever game is played that Saturday is the one I want to watch.
If I miss the Wyoming game because it is on the LHN instead of FSN, then that sucks big time.
Most of the early season men's BB games were on FSN in past years. This last season, most were on the LHN and I could not watch them.
I dont see anything changing in 2012-2013.
The plan seems to be to punish UT fans as much as possible so they will continue to complain to Comcast............
That seems like a weak plan by ESPN.

The other games that might make Tier 1 or 2 in the Big XII when we play Wyoming are:

West Virginia vs. Marshall
Texas vs. Wyoming
OU vs. UTEP
Iowa State vs. Tulsa

All of the other Big XII games are against Division II schools or schools I have never heard of, I am betting that the Wyoming game will be on Fox, ESPN or ABC.

Jeez, people are so funny, really you missed out on Baseball games this year? What channel did you normally watch them?

SMU has been saying that SMU/Baylor has already gotten picked up in the C-USA contract with FSW.

At least it's a "plan," no matter how weak it seems at the moment. Call me overly-optimistic, but the cost per household isn't through the roof, as some of the providers have been complaining about.

I guess on the bright side, it's still preferable to the late 80s when I'd get to watch maybe 6 of the games all season.

I actually think by televising 3 games this season on the LHN will actually force some carriers to pick up the channel. Time Warner is the one that will probably do nothing about it. Come on UVerse, Dish, Direct and Grande Expansion. in the Austin area get moving.

I think Time Warner is actually the first who is going to step up in terms of "major" cable providers (sorry Grande). Comcast/Xfinity is always a late reactor to trends.

It might take a while, but I still think it catches on. Even if ING has to renegotiate the contract, the channel eventually gets picked up and we still get paid. In the mean time, it sucks that the distribution is the issue.
