Foods that you always eat together

Other than turkey and dressing and some other obvious groupings, are there 2(+) foods you always seem to put together that others may not? So when you say you are cooking X that necessarily means there will be some Y.

I don't think I've ever eaten escaloped potatoes with any meat other than ham.

Pasta = x (spaghetti with meat sauce or pesto, lasagna, even Hamburger Helper) and salad = y. In this case, x means there will be y, but y doesn't necessarily mean there will be x.

uh....beer and BBQ. I think yes.

Chicken Fried Steak and Mashed Potatoes.

CFS *must* be accompanied by mashed taters.

Mashed taters on the other hand, can co-exist happily with any number of other entres.

But "IF steak THEN mashed potatoes". (Modus ponens?)

Ah yes, the art of "pairing." A $9-10 bottle of red wine with a 1/2 lb cheeseburger (medium). Any kind of chicken I like with asparagus. The BBQ-potato salad combo mentioned above is mandatory. Any soul food dish must include fried okra if available.
