I think some overrate this and "Texas de Brazil". It's worth it a couple of times a year just for the unique gaucho experience and sheer amount of beef (or chicken and pork if you so desire). There are better steakhouses in Dallas to be sure but few are as fun as Fogo. Fast for a couple of days before going so you can really get your $$ worth and set new cholesterol records.

Frank, depends on how much you like meat; if you're a serious carnivore, you should like it alot. The $38.95 per head charge also includes a fancy salad bar with many high-dollar items so you should figure that into your price/value equation.

I agree with shock junkie; it's good about once or twice a year. Fogo is better than Texas de Brazil, IMO. Eat very lightly before you go and beware of post-Fogo coma!

That place blew my mind, well worth it.

Fantastic salad bar included in price.

Incredible, do it.

Place rocks! Definitely fast for 24 hrs prior to going. Definitely try some of each meat offered. Definitely hit the salad bar. Absolutely, positively save some room for a papaya cream desert. Definitely wear pants with an elastic wasteband and no belt. Definitely allow no cameras at your table to film the carnage.

There's one outside loop 610 on Westheimer. I believe its just a block west of Old Farm Rd. It is awesome...but not someplace I make it to more than a couple of times a year.

Don't get tricked by the salad bar. Skip it and the sides so that you will have more room for the meat.

Fun place to go once every two or three years.

Gauchos running around with meat on skewers cutting off as much as you want.

All types of cuts of meat including chicken.

They have this garlic beef and that is what blew my mind.

We have tried both and neither one has a large salad bar for the money.
Fogo's meat was a little tougher than Texas de.
I hear Bona Braza in Grapvine is the best of the three.

I liked it...but only went there twice. But...like one poster said...maybe you go there once or twice a year. I don't think anyone can eat $40 worth of meat.

Excellent place, but in case you don't know, and most people do not, please, please, please do NOT pronounce it "Fogo de chow." That is not the way it is pronounced. It is pronounced "Fogo dee shown."

Rabid has it right. I have always liked Fogo, but Boi na Braza beats Fogo. Their food and atmosphere are better. The owner of Boi na Braza is the orginal owner of Fogo. Do youself a favor and go to Boi na instead. The cost is the same.

cntl - um... fogo de shao (nasal shao, no n should be heard). maybe I''m confusing your "shown" with the same word, just nasal.

excellent food... great service... but for my taste it is too pricey... there used to be a place down the street from the one here in Houston called Rodizio Grill that was the same concept but much more casual... I think the price there was $22 per person for dinner which was much more reasonable to me...
Fogo is good, but in the end I just don't feel I got my $$s worth... I'd rather spend that same $50 at a steakhouse like Pappas or El Buen Bife or Ruth's Chris..

longhrnfan,

I do not know Portuguese, but I do know "Chow" is not correct. I don't understand where they get "shown," but they have it right there on their web site: The Link

Idogg is right. It's a great place, but severly overpriced unless you are prepared to eat an unhealthy amount of food. I would much rather take the $40 and get one really great steak, than to taste a bunch of pretty good, but nothing great pieces of meat. Still, it's an experience and you might want to try it once. The salad bar is indeed awesome and I wish they would offer it on a stand-along basis.

ldogg...

Rodizio burned down a couple of years ago. There's something new there now. Rodizio didn't really compare to FDC, but it was half the price.

Dunvale was the road I couldn't remember for the Houston location.
