New Brazilian restaurant on 3rd st. near the convention center. Went last night and it was wonderful. I know it's a chain but it's very good and I highly recommend it. Go in there hungry because there is so much food they bring out. For anyone who doesn't know about this place, they bring out different steaks, chicken, pork, lamb, etc. on skewers and each person at the table gets this disk to control the pace of your meal. If you turn it green, the gaucho chefs keep bringing you food and if you turn it over to red, they stop. Try it out!

pancho's!

Going to the one in Houston for lunch today. Can't wait. I'm glad to hear there is one in Austin now - I'll have to go when I visit my family. Maybe we can do Christmas at Fogo this year.

Its a huge meal. A good time if you're up to it. Been one on Westheimer about 7000 block for 5-6 years now.

Excellent choice for inducing a meat coma.

First time I ate there was a new years eve many years ago, in Dallas. When we left, all the guys had to walk around in the parking lot for about half an hour, because we were too full to sit down in our cars. It was a beautiful thing.

Our wives were not so impressed with our gluttony.

Went there last Friday night. The food is above average, but imho, there are many more quality steakhouses in the ATX. It's pricey and the wine list is pretty good.

What gets me about the place is it seems to attempt to give the vibe that it's a "classy" place, but the atmosphere is similar to the Salt Lick if you get the Family platter. It's very "busy" in the restaurant with the people bringing meat, rolls, pouring your wine, other patrons passing your table to go to the salad bar, etc… Don't get me wrong, I enjoyed my experience there, but it's not an intimate setting as you will find at other "fine dining" establishments. Fogo is for people who want to gorge, not dine, which is great on occasion, but don't be fooled that it's for a quiet dinner with spouse/friends because it's not. I guess for the price, I was expecting different.

I don't equate "fine dining" with "intimate" although they can go together.

I'd rather sit in the middle of the boisterous dining rooms of Truluck's or Sullivan's than go to Ruth's Chris.

Granted I'm usually going out for dinner with the guys before we hit the bars and if I'm on a date I usually go somewhere more intimate.

Fogo is great for what it is and isn't meant to be an intimate place.

I went to the Austin location for lunch, it was outstanding.

Clearly head and shoulders above the other place in town.

Superior service and the quality of food was outstanding.

Wine mark-up was crazy, but happens everywhere.

This place is really great. I went last weekend after some of my coworkers went while in Austin for a conference. It was different than what I'm used to, so that was nice as well.

I'll go back soon.

Pretty sure the fact that they feature South American dudes running around with meat on swords is a clue that it isn't going to be an "intimate" experience.

Yes. Texas de Brazil is a knockoff. The quality of meat at Fogo is better, but Texas de Brazil is still a good deal (if we are talking about the one in Addison).

I went. It owns. I ate until I thought I would pop, and then I went back to the salad bar. Heart of palm is my new favorite food. It's a jaw-dropping experience. That I would never pay for myself. Or rather, if I was paying, I would just do the salad bar and let everyone else induce meat-coma.

I'd say Estancia Churrascaria is 85% of the quality of FDC, at 66% of the price and 75% of the selection of meat and 50% of the salad.

The big drawback to Estancia is how packed the seats are. You get much more room to breathe and expand your waistband at Fogo de Chau.
