Seems like a good pickup for them

Maybe we (UT) should do more of this bait and switch stuff. We should tell a potential all-star that he can play any position he wants to and then do like OU or LSU and switch them after they have sat on the bench a few years. Hey Mac are you listeining?

If they stick by it, good for them and him if he gets a fair shot at that position. Let's not forget that Reggie McNeil was recruited by Texas as a WR, VY as a QB. Aggy recruited Reggie as a QB and VY as a WR. We know how that turned out. One won an MNC the other did not. One plays is still in the NFL, the other as a WR may not even be in the Canadian League.

I know Jcas was kidding but it goes to show Mack is a straight shooter in telling a player what he is recruiting him for and what position. Take Paul Thompson, for example. Texas said he could be a WR, OU forced the QB issue and moved him to WR. I think he could have had a shot at the pros with 4 years at the WR position, who knows for sure? Nobody.

You do realize that PT was a QB and wanted to play QB.. He was only switched after he lost the job and it was the only way for the kid to see the field.

You had already given your commit, Eric and while you are big time, you are not BIG TIME.

Russell Shepard would've been a great wishbone QB. He'll never play a down as LSU's starting QB, though he might see some garbage time this year.

Shepard is a great athlete/RB, but he just doesn't have the arm for the type of offenses in CFB today.

Fair enough and much more thought put into it with your post...you are right, GSJ. I really liked Paul Thompson and feel he got the shaft and was not used well there nor given a fair shake. I don't think he would have gone pro at QB even with 4 years there and had a better chance at WR. But, not only am I not a pro scout, I did not sleep at a Holiday Inn either.

Can I pretend that my post was yours since it is better?

I watched Paul Thompson play quite a bit in high school, and he's one player I always wished would have chosen the Horns.

He obviously carried himself with a lot more class than his head coach during his days up in Norman. A lesser person might have told Stoops to suck thick, black exhaust smoke after being thrown under the bus like Thompson was, only to be asked to save his team's season when the prima donna that replaced him (without merit or reason, except for his coach's bad choice) was kicked off the team, something medium game Bob is loathe to do, even to players who emotionally and physically abuse girlfriends and teammates.

Paul Thompson would have made a very good Longhorn. It was hard for me to pull against him, even when he was dressed out in crimson and cream, except when okie was playing Texas.

Bradford's not a bad guy...we'd probably like him a lot if we had him, and didn't have Colt. However, Paul Thompson's the one okie quarterback that's shown the most grace under pressure. It's too bad the rest of that team doesn't seem to have learned from him.
