That is one darn fine radio station.

How the heck did I not stumble across it until last weekend?

P. S. I don't live in Austin, but visit there regularly

I couldn't agree more. They're tremendous.

They've been around more than a decade at this point.

Every year they issue a cd....Broadcast Volume XX - live tracks recorded in their studio. You should pick one up.

Yes awesome.

Although I think they have more commercials (or at least longer breaks) than most stations. At least it seems that way to me.

Commercial? What is this commercial thing you speak of?

Seriously, good station. When I have to listen to old fashioned behind the times radio that is one of the maybe five stations I will try to listen to. I second the live cd that comes out every year. You can get them cheap at, well, Cheapo.

Kinda bland after a while. Same middle of the road, 'rootsy, slightly twangy', stuff all the time. Poster-child radio station for aging Austinites who have 'keep austin weird' tshirts and bumper stickers. Its 'OK', but there's better programming on KUT, KOOP and KVRX.

The "jazz" show they have on Sunday morning is the worst thing on the radio. Other than that, solid radio station.

Chitwood must be thinking of the "smooth Jazz" stuff they do in the AM; then after that it's "real" Jazz with another DJ who also does stuff on KUT.

My 1st choice in FM radio is KUT & / or KGSR (they're interchangeable to me other than if there's a commercial on or if I don't like the song on KUT).

An exception is the noon hour on 101.5 if I'm driving around & remember.

NCAA, you're right, I'm thinking of the "smooth jazz" show--that thing is awful. I've missed the real jazz that comes on afterwards, have to listen next time.

That smooth jazz dj is like the greatest parody of a jazz dj. I can't help but make fun of him, much to the wife's dismay.

I'll check out 90.5.

For the most part, I keep the dial set on 107.1, which means if I jump in the car on Sunday morning, I get hit with that smooth jazz show. It's like a car wreck. How do you avoid "looking"?

They spend a lot of time talking about the "Catalina" show, which apparently the Lollapalooza of smooth jazz. Seems like a great time for an earthquake.

maybe so, but when you're alternatives on free radio are multiple tejano, multiple christian, one easy listening, one classic rock, multiple country/rock, and multiple hip-hop stations, KGSR comes across like a breath of fresh air.
