drove by today going to mandola's for lunch

the sign is already up, so the impending awesomeness can't be too far away

i live less than 10 minutes away but stiill, i think i am going to rent one of those apartmments right above it so i can just walk upstairs afterwards

i wonder if my wife will mind

i really wish i lived above the flying saucer in houston. it would make the 200 a lot more attainable. i might go there tonight

I went to a Flying Saucer in Fort Worth and thought it was really good.

Where will the Austin one be located?

GakFoo, do we now agree on just one thing because we are in agreement that the Saucer is genius?

What is funny Gak, is beside the okra in gumbo thing, I can't remember anything else about which we have really sparred.

I drove by there yesterday and it looks close to being ready.

I went to the one in San Antonio and it was nice. The beer club thing sounds cool but I think they only let you advance 3 beers a day. I've got no time for that slowness.

They will have an awesome selection but I don't think it would be possible for them to dwarf Gingerman. Anyone care to make a friendly wager on that? I say there's no way they have more than Gingerman + 10.

Went out Christmas night and was it was totally dead everywhere but found a nice crowd at BD Riley's on 6th.

On the 26th we had a big group at J Black's and had an awesome time. Plenty of other people there too.

doesnt saucer always have at least 200 different beers available? pretty sure that gingerman doesn't come close to that.

I go to the one in SA all the time and they have a **** load of beers on tap...I mean a total LOAD

I doubt the gingerman has as many

i remember the first time I went there several years ago and seeing the "wall" of beer taps the first time I walked in. I wanted to cry

I go to the SA location often. Mostly because its smoke free and can bring my son and have some grub and a beer.

the one in san antonio took my favorite pyramid off tap & replaced it with some apricot ********. I don't know what I'm going to do now...

So one of the only places I was going to miss in San Antonio when I moved was the Flying Saucer. Having it in Austin now just makes it that much sweeter to move.

The one in SA does rock. They have great specials too.

I just like the fact that I have another beer pup option in NorthCentral Austin. For some reason I can never garner group support to go to the Draughthouse... and we always end up at Gingerman. Saucer will be a great option for us...

Just walked by (Sunday night) and the crew was working on the place. It'll certainly be open at some point in January. It looks like they'll have a great outdoor area as well. I'm excited.

I just checked their website; the Austin Flying Saucer has posted their beer menu. I compared it to Ginger Man’s current January menu.

Saucer: 230 beers
G-Man: 188 beers

Both places have a lot of beer. That's all that really matters to me.

Personally, I'm most impressed with a large draught selection, so if the difference is primarily bottles, then it doesn't really interest me that much-- unless they carry a bunch of stuff that is rare and hard to find, or have an extensive selection of bottle-conditioned Belgian beers or something like that.

Regardless, I will no doubt enjoy drinking beer there once the Austin Saucer opens, just as I have always enjoyed drinking beer at the G-man.
