Flying into South Padre

I'm looking at flying into South Padre. Is it better to fly Southwest into Harlingen or Brownsville? What options do I have for getting from either airport to the island? Should I get a rental car?

Southwest only flies into Harlingen. I'd rent a car. The airport isn't exactly close to the island.

Keep it slow when going through the town of Flores.

I think that the trip is about 45 minutes.

what lat said. if you're in dallas our houston, am eagle and cont. express fly into brownsville.

We're flying into Harlingen and renting a car.

Now for somewhere to stay - any suggestions?

How long are you going for? When? Kids? etc.

There are many beaches houses to rent (not far from the beach) that are pretty reasonable if you are staying for a week or whatever. If you are just going for the weekend any of the hotels towards the south end of the island will suit your needs and are close to bars/restaurants.

Hard to go wrong with the Sheraton.

The South Padre Wave Transportation System connects to this service (Rio Transit) from the Brownsville Airport. It is much closer and less expensive than commuting from Harlingen.
