Floyd resurfaces at UTEP

How many coaching lives is Floyd going to get? The NCAA didn't even conclude the USC probe/trial yet. Wouldn't it be interesting if they found Floyd violated the rules? But I am sure he will get off scott free just like Calipari did at UMASS and Memphis.

I guess as long as you keep winning, it doesn't matter how you go about doing it. That's a good message to send from our system of higher learning, which the NCAA is supposedly trying so hard to keep from being sullied.

For some reason I can't think of UTEP without seeing that guy getting a handjob while watching the Horns v. Miners game in 2008.

Floyd was Haskins top assistant from 78 to 86. He is still loved in El Paso for that. Until the OJ Mayo mess he had a reputation for being a clean, tough coach in the Haskins mold. If he hadnt made the mistake of taking the Chicago job the year after Jordan retired he could have been a legend at Iowa State, he built that school into a power and left it for the drunk who followed to take them to a couple of Sweet 16's and an elite 8. Floyd may or may not have made mistakes at USC but that is not his character and I hope that his time at UTEP can redeem some of what he lost taking the Trojan job.

I think the Floyd hire's a good one for UTEP, and for Floyd.

His rep before USC was solid, and UTEP gives him a good chance to rebuild it, much like UTEP's given Mike Price the chance to clean up his name.

UTEP's not a bad basketball job at all, and Floyd can coach, and recruit well. I look for him to do well out on the border, and I'm betting he stays out there a long time.
