Flemings etc help

I need a recommendation for a nice restaurant. Right now, I’m leaning towards Flemings but I’ve also been recommended to go to Roys, Carmelos, etc.

I’ve only been to Carmelos, and it was really good. But I’m thinking of maybe a steak house or maybe something on the lake. Not sure, just want something good and nice atmosphere. Also, may want a good wine selection. I need any suggestions by Friday. Thanks for the help!

I LOVE Fleming's and Roy's. I'm also a hornfans "food snob".

to me, carmelo's atmosphere is remarkable, but the food is not "all that".

Roy's does some really badass stuff with fish. Flemings always gives me great service and the steaks are alweays great.

do not order their calamari though. it's not really that good at all.

thanks for the advice. You are right about Carmelos. The atmosphere is amazing but just think I will pass on it for personal reasons.

But since Flemings keeps getting these great reviews I may go there.

Do you know of any good places on either Lake Austin or Travis?

what about Chez Zee off Balcones/2222? Or Eddie V's?

Thanks....this is making me hungry already.

I continue to be a huge fan of Vespaio. It is one of the few Austin restaurants that I believe would be outstanding in just about any city.

If you are looking for steak and want to be out near Lake Travis, Hudson's on the Bend is still a great place..

I like Chez Zee for brunch rather than dinner.

Eddie V's kicks ***. Good selection of both steak and fish. Their wine list is decent.

Chez Zee isn't in Fleming's class. It's a good restaurant, but I don't think that's what you're looking for.

Out by the lake, I'd go with Hudson's On The Bend. It's an amazing restaurant. Don't go if you're not a moderately adventurous eater, though. Most of the menu is wild game.

For wine, it's hard to beat Fleming's. I think they have the best steaks in town, too, and their sides are unreal. Do NOT order more than one side per person, or you'll waste them.

The wife and I celebrated our 25th at Roy's earlier this month. Outstanding food and service were the order of the evening. Her butterfish was the best she had ever tasted. My steak was fork tender and cooked perfectly to order. Appetizers are enough to share; crab cakes for her and calamari for myself and should have ordered only one of those as we had plenty. It was a memorable evening and we'll definitely be going back.

agreed with all here. Chez Zee is best for brunch

I ate at Roy's last night and Eddie V's on Friday night. Both amazing....the crab cakes at Eddie V's are the best is Austin, IMO.

Butterfish is indeed tasty at Roy's.

Since you mentioned wine, another great place is Wink. You can hit their wine bar for pre/post dinner drinks and the food is typically outstanding..

Another vote for Fleming's.....it's our anniversary place now - excellent waitstaff, bartenders, food, dessert, atmosphere

Decided to try something outside of the "rotation" on Friday and went to Austin Land and Cattle Co. Got the goat cheese stuffed green chiles for the app, NY Strip (med-rare) with a Lobster Tail, braised veggies and garlic mashed potatoes for entree plus a bottle of merlot (i know, i know, just wasn't in the mood for a cab), and a slice of the NY Cheesecake for dessert. I absolutely loved that place. I loved the (Austin) upscale but casual/western motif and they absolutely nailed the steak. As good as any I've had at Jeffrey's/Fleming's/Ruth's Chris/Truluck's/Sullivan's/Reed's/etc., although I would definitely differentiate those places on atmosphere.

big fan of Austin L&C

last time there we talked with the owner and complimented their "seasoning". He walked out 5 mnutes later with a huge container full of their rub. I've used it at home ever since and it's terrific.

Sorry for the delayed response, but I ended up going to Fleming’s.

It was amazing. I had the filet mignon, gorgonzola mashed potatoes, and some of the lobster tail. Everything was incredible; the service, wine selection, oh and of course the food.

Thanks for all the responses. Next time maybe somewhere on the lake to change it up a bit to give it a more Texan appeal or something.
