Flaw exposed in GPS

UT students at work A UT professor and his students developed a tool to take over a ship's navigational system and can pilot the boat to where ever they want while the captain and crew think everything is okay. They said it also applies to aircraft so can you imagine what a terrorist could do if they had this tool? Funny thing is, Homeland Security has been aware of it for a while now and hasn't done anything about it. Imagine that!
 
There are alternatives to GPS that are more accurate and in use in certain applications already with the consumer market next in line. As you mentioned this is a known exploit or weakness. I don't know what they are but measures are in place already to minimize this threat leading to avoiding it all together. It's still scary how nothing is safe forever now.
