Flag Burning Twarted

I think you are constitutionally protected to protest by burning an American flag, but it's an ugly inciteful act bound to draw protest. I think I would be angry and communicate that to anyone burning a flag in anything except an honorable retirement ceremony. I joined fellow students in shouting down a Communist with a loudspeaker trying to give us a speech on the evils of capitalism while at UT. I think we were honorably exercising our own right to free speech..

Free speech, protest, and open debate are fundamental exercises for democracy. I am on the side of the counter-protest, but I’m glad there are people out there to peacefully challenge my ideas. Down deep, that's why we all come to the West Mall.

Rick Monday thwarted it all by himself

I'm sure this case is so totally different from the pastor burning the Koran. Where's obama asking us to not burn the flag bc it might incite violence? Oh, that's right. He's too busy being making fun of his opponents in El Paso.

Not coincidentally, Haas looks likethe type that would enjoy burning the american flag. he has every right to do so. he also has the freedom to accept the ramification of that action. one place you don't want to crap on america is the deep south. he probably would have garnered a crowd of supporters at berkley.

Wasn't much of the issue and the reason he got arrested was ripped down a flag off a War Memorial?
That is not free speech, that is theft and vandalism.

if he provides his own flag he has the right to burn it.

the title of this post is kind of off.

He wasn't permitted to burn a flag and so he was not going to burn one. how could these protestors thwart something that was not going to happen?
