Fishing

Anyone fish the Corpus Christi Bay this weekend? Just wondering if yall had any luck out there.

Funny you should ask, my 5 year old and I fished the big rigs 2 miles west of Shamrock - just off the ICW.

He outfished me. He caught 4 of our 7 keeper trout - 3 were >18 inches.

This was last Wednesday....and we left them biting so hurry up.

The hook and line maps you can get at Academy are really quite helpful. The Corpus Christi bay really doesn't have all that many good spots. The rigs mentioned before can be quite good. It usually takes a little longer for the water to warm uo and make them good, but the water is probably warmer than usual. Fishing the guts at Dagger has been good for me lots of times and the point where the ditch opens up into the bay just south of Dagger can be productive. Shamrock, Pink Shack Cove.

Almost all of the decent fishing requires a boat and you didn't say if you had one. I have no idea how to fish that bay without a boat.

You can't fish Baffin without a boat. Most people can't fish it with a boat. I don't mean you have to fish FROM a boat, but you can's even legally get to most areas by wading unless you are capable of wading for many miles.

Perhaps they exist, but I've never even heard of a guide who charges $500 and doesn't have a boat.

I take that back. Billy Sandifer will fish the PINS surf with you from his station wagon or old blue suburban. Other than that...?

There are plenty of places in the CC and PA area to wade. Certainly having a boat significantly increases your options, but wading can be very productive if you know where to go. Do some research on the web and you'll find plenty of recommendations. I'd post some here, but you know how it is...

I'm going to Port Aransas next weekend and have just gotten back into fishing. What advice can you give me regarding the new braided and fluorocarbon lines. I would like to rig up my baitcasting and opened face spinning outfits for fishing inshore.

As a personal preference I don't like the braided line. It just seems more difficult to fish with. I'll stick with the 10 or 12 pound mono.

We were out in the Laguna Madre just below Corpus last Thursday. I caught a 25" and 26" trout. The great part was that the 26" trout was only the 3rd biggest one we caught that day. We also had a 27" and a 29.5". I've never gotten in to trout that big before. We were wading along the the King Ranch shoreline

Judgroy, how did your trip go? Any other recent fishing reports from Port Aransas? Does any one know the best way to rig up, and what bait to use, to catch the small (hopefully!) sharks on the beach at Port A?
