Fishing around Austin

I'm coming to visit my brother in Round Rock with my 12-year old daughter and was hoping to take her fishing in the area. Any suggestions?
Also, what are the regulations for permits and such?

I grew up on the coast, so am still learning my way around fishing central Texas.

Lakes -- pretty much need a boat. There are probably some small lakes and ponds in the RR area which you could fish with a bobber etc. and do okay, but I don't know any specifically.

I have been doing a lot of river fishing -- the San Gabriel and the Llano, mostly. Good populations of bass and sunfish, usually found in deeper holes and close to cover near the bank. Can be caught with poppers, bait, and small lures (crappie jigs work well for all species -- most fish aren't very big).

Also, since it is getting cooler, might not want to fish at first light -- wait till the water warms up a bit.

Maybe look at Texas Parks and Wildlife website -- they list urban lakes sometimes.

I know there are a lot of small impoundments on Brushy Creek (I see them on detailed maps) -- is there public access to any of those, and is there fishing on them? Anyone?

Thanks all for the feedback.

I got back from Austin late Sunday and with all the rain on Friday and Saturday, the closest I got to fish was seeing the Long John Silver's west of Congress Ave and just off the 360.
