First Practice

the team should be able to start full team practice on Sept 27 (this coming Monday) as that should be 40 days (excluding Sundays)from the date of their first game which is on November 12 versus Mississippi Valley State here in Austin.

ANY CLUE on when the Open Practices will be, BAB?

no idea when the open practices will be. But, since the fantasy camp on Oct. 16 will allow participants to stay and watch a practice, I'm hoping that will be one of the likely two open practices this year. Coach G has scheduled two open practices each year and last year one was the day of the fantasy camp.

Keep watching the utexas website for announcements. That's what I am doing.

I always thought official practices weren't allowed until like mid-October . . .

I think, and I couldn't find it in the NCAA rules, talk about a lot of words that are hard to understand. Anyway, I think that coaches are allowed to do "skill development" with all of the team but with only a limited number at a time(maximum of groups of four is the number I remember for some reason). Then on the Friday nearest Oct 15, all of the team can practice together. This year, the 15 is on a Friday, so maybe that's the date that the entire team can start practice together, not in just in groups.

Some schools have their midnight madness to kickoff the first day of official practice; never heard that the dates of a team's first game changes the beginning of that practice date.

TCU women started practice yesterday -

"Due to a new NCAA rule change in effect for this season, all women’s basketball teams are allowed more preseason practices and have an opportunity to begin workouts earlier than past years. Teams will be allotted 40 days for 30 practices prior to the start of their regular seasons. TCU is beginning its practice schedule nearly two weeks earlier than its 2009-10 start date of Oct. 16."
