How impressive was it after the turtle just marched down the field on our asses for an opening drive TD that our O comes onto the field and picks up an immediate delay of game. Then when we finally get the play off, Sam throws an out to to his right while the receiver runs an in. We had 8 months to prepare for that BS?

I'm not positive about this, but apparently there was an issue with Collin Johnson's uniform and he had to leave the game. So Brennan Eagles has to run in for him, they don't get the change made in time, and they get a delay. Brennan then immediately runs the wrong route on his first collegiate play.

No idea what the uniform issue was, but the reality is that you have to coach freshmen differently, it seems. We had a bunch out there, and they made a bunch of mistakes. Of course, so did the vets, so who knows.

Thanks Prodigal. I just saw that.
After Texas then took the field, receiver Collin Johnson was alerted that he had an equipment violation. Since Johnson did not get off the field in time, Texas took a delay of game penalty. Another sign of poor coaching that our players don't know a rule change.

I would cut the coaches some slack - we don't know when and how often they stressed this issue. Also, as we all know, 18-21 year old males have issues following instructions.

HOWEVER, the position coach should have the responsibility of checking before the game. Unfortunately, Texas' receivers' coach not only cannot coach the position; he cannot see an issue like this.

Plain and simply, we were out coached by an interim head coach with a team embroiled in controversy.

It is TH emulating Charlie Strong. Unless he makes changes immediately - especially with Beck - he is done.

How about this.....why did Sam choose to throw to a true freshman on the first play of the season? Does he not have the green light to audible or check down to another receiver? Or was that another example of poor decision making?

Since the game plan does not start with a first and fifteen use a timeout. I do not see any reason to hold on to a time out when you put yourself in a hole right out of the box.

If those 18-21 year old males who have the prospect of million-dollar contracts in the next few years cannot follow the simplest of instructions (like make sure your uniform is CORRECT), then we need to be recruiting 18-21 year old males that actually passed the work given in middle school...

How in the hell you can have an EQUIPMENT violation is beyond me, especially at the beginning of a game. This isn't late in the 4th quarter where someone's number is ripped and the uniform is more of a mid-shirt.

That would be a poor use of a timeout. Timeouts are more valuable than 5 yards. Maybe not on 3rd and 2, or with goal to go, but that's not what we had.
