First hoops game in Austin for me in a while...

I haven't been to a home basketball game in probably 10 years (not a bandwagon-jumper, just haven't been in Austin during basketball season). I'll be going to the Baylor game Saturday. Scholz still the place to go before/after the game? Any parking issues I should be aware of? Someone give me the scoop.

I believe Shoal Creek Saloon is also a popular pre- and post-game hangout, but my info is dated--I haven't lived in Austin since 2002 and I haven't visited the saloon since 2007 or 2008.

Scholz is the place to go. Get there a few hours early and you may find a parking spot on the street. Otherwise you'll be able to pay $5-7 to park in one of the state garages or lots not reserved for season ticket holders by the longhorn foundation.

It's a lot harder than it used to be to park nearby without paying, mostly because UT changed the rules for a lot of it's parallel and angled parking along the streets of campus to require a UT permit 24/7/365 rather than just Mon-Fri from 7:30-5:45. You can still park for free, you just have to not mind walking 15 minutes or so, as you'll probably be near Dean Keaton.

If you are over 55, make sure you sit very close to the court and stay seated all game. NO MAKING NOISE ( No matter how giddy you are about saving 50% on your parking). Maybe bring a good book to read on your kindle.

When students start getting loud, tell them to be quiet and respect their elders. This isn't Cameron indoor for goodness sake.
