First commitment of the 2016 class

wonder who it is? Saw her at practice but didn't recognize. She has good size, but not Center size, I don't think. Good to get it started.

Like what height?

Would think it could be 6'4 Cierra Johnson of Duncanville, or 5'11 Jada Underwood.

Could be HG #48 Kianna Ray, who is 6'. She won some awards at a Horn camp when Coach G was here. She's 6' so might be the height range Babhorn was referring to. Here's a blog with pics of her at that Longhorn camp...you have to scroll down for the feature:

Not really sure if she's someone we're pursuing, or that is interested in us, but a possibility I guess.

my guess, seeing her next to Coach A, would be about 5-10/6-0. With the caveat that my height estimating is not exactly reliable.

Hey, I would be very happy with a post.

Thanks for the info on Ray. Hoopgurlz shows her as uncommitted, which is weird since they've updated the list for recent commits like Mulkey, Landrum and Ramirez.

Still can't find any confirmation of the 2016 verbal commitment. On TV, didn't notice any recruits sitting behind the bench.

Coach A's tweet after the game mentions "special visitors":

Had a great time with our team and special visitors today! Present and future is bright!

There definitely was a recruit in the building, I saw her get walked down and talk to Plonsky and Jody during halftime. She seemed to have nice size and looked very athletic. It would be nice to get a name

So, it looks like there were a couple of recruits in. Not sure there was a verbal, as I've noticed Coach Aston has taken up Coach Strong's #LetsRide when that happens.

Anyway, just digging through Twitter for a while, it looks like 2016 Alecia Sutton from Missouri was here, along with 2017 Jo'Nah Johnson from Oklahoma. Even though their Twitter accounts are public, I would feel weird posting them here, but you can certainly look them up!

Interesting find on Sutton and Johnson. Looks like Johnson visited College Station a day or two before stopping in Austin.
With Sutton being 2016, I'm wondering if she's the verbal commitment. Looks like Coach A made a slight faux paus by using A&M football coach, Kevin Sumlin's common yes sir!!
(although it wasn't a hashtag now that I reivew it) when indicating a verbal commitment.

I'm with Jusme, I don't think there was a verbal. Alecia Sutton is looking at a lot of schools and it appears she is pretty open at the moment. Not sure about Jo'nah Johnson but she has visited A&M a few times.

It's hard to get a good read on the 2016. However, it seems the coaches have honed in on L. Cox, J. Holmes, N. Chou, A. Sutton, Aaliyah Wilson, A. McElroy, J. Underwood and C. Johnson. It's evident they are pushing hardest for Cox (as are a lot of other schools). OU might be a dark horse for her. She has visited multiple times, her USA teammate Nancy Mulkey recently committed to OU, their volleyball program is decent, and it's not very far from home.

As for 2017, I do think we are in very good shape with Didi Richards and Chasity Patterson.

05Longhorn,
You are certainly right about the difficulty on getting a read on the 2016 class. That list you have for potential 2016 recruits is impressive. Any four or five from there would be a very good class. It’s true that Cox has visited OU but I figure that if she wants to try to play both sports, Texas has an elite VB program and both VB and WBB have had several players that have played both sports. Mulkey does make OU an interesting option for Cox, when you look at the friendship but, once again, I think Texas is in better shape to compete for a championship with Cox than OU would be.

It’s fun following the recruiting, at least for me. A couple of players I had thought we had a very good shot have gone elsewhere. All that means is that there’s plenty of room for other talented players to come to Texas.

For those who understand Twitter, why, on 11/10, would Coach A retweet a Charlie Strong tweet from 10/26 (which was 2 weeks ago)?

Great addition to the Longhorn family today! #LetsRide

It could mean that someone who had already committed (perhaps for 2015) was on an unofficial visit hence "future Longhorn" and then a suggestion/request to 2016 recruits to go ahead and commit and "get the '16 party started."

I guess we will find out sooner or later.

Anything is possible. Aborowa already took her official visit. There's a chance Jordan Hosey was in attendance, and even greater chance that Lashann Higgs was in attendance.

But, Coach A has been tweeting about the 2015 kids by referring to upcoming National Signing Day, which is tomorrow (11/12/2014) Finally!

Sorry to rain on your parade, but she just decided last week.

“It's my birthday today and I wanted to announce it on a special day,” Sutton said. “I knew last week. It was a hard decision.”
