Write-up per the fine boys at Texas.247Sports.com...
Top 2016 (at any position) Manvel WR Reggie Hemphill, 6'-1", 170-lbs commits to the Texas Longhorns!

Not sure if the link below will work since it's a pay site, so here's the first paragraph...
The Texas Longhorns are already looking ahead to the future. On Tuesday night they secured their first commitment for the 2016 recruiting class when Manvel wide receiver Reggie Hemphill – expected to be one of the country's top prospects regardless of position – decided to end his recruitment early and pull the trigger on officially becoming a Longhorn.

I think that everybody, including the coaches, hate how early guys are getting offered. But, when it it comes to truly elite talent, coaches really have no choice. This kid should be a good one. Lets hope he stays healthy.

Yes. There was a poster on here years ago that had a spider in his apartment that he named larry after larry dibbles. He would pounce on his prey the same way that larry would on the field. I always loved dibbles and got to drink with him a few times in college so it became my username.

So the kid is going to be a sophomore in HS this year?

I guess these kids stand out at these camps, there can't be that much film on them, do freshman in HS make varsity that often these days?

No.
The last one at Grapevine was Henry Melton. He started on JV, but it became evident that he could help the varsity by about week 3 or 4.
What was unique about 9th Grade Henry was that he was honest to God way bigger than all of the other players - in 9th grade.
Grapevine is 5A in a good district, so this wasnt like Leonard davis towering over all of his 1A teammates. (Of course Big would've towered over any classification teammates that you could've placed him among - he just happened to play smalltown ball)

Anyway, as a 9th grader HM played RB & then went on to play on Sundays. So, although I think those types are extremely rare, you just knew by the summer prior to his soph year that HM was gonna be really good. I bet Reggie is that same level of can't miss, or the coaches wouldn't be risking a spot this early. But again, there aren't many around that you wouldn't want to wait until their Jr year at least, to extend an offer.

Changing the subject: I am all for recruiting the future, but class of 2016 in the summer of 2013? If my fuzzy math is right, he has not even played his Soph. year in HS right?
