Firefox 3 Final is out

I've been trying all day with no luck. It either doesn't load or prompts me to download Firefox 2.

Now I got it. Not bad. So far noticed that the autocomplete in the address bar gives you a little more information about the previous pages, which is cool.

This is an intermediate type release.

The upgrade to Gecko is nice, but the big change, dropping Spider Monkey and using Tamarin won't happen until Firefox 4.

When that happens, Firefox will be ECMAScript 4/JavaScript 2 compliant and the Tamarin interpreter is blazing ******* fast. Right now you are starting to see RIAs built from JavaScript frameworks instead of Flash. That's all in its infancy. Firefox 4 will allow JavaScript-based sites to fully mature.

I tried one of the Firefox 3 RCs a while back and it broke an old but very important extension to my browsing experience(Clone Window). I have since decided to wean myself off of Firefox and am now really, really liking Opera.

I just loaded it and lost ALL my "bookmarks" from the previous version.
ANY suggestions?

Something may just be corrupted and the bookmark file is still there. Do a file search for 'bookmarks.html'. It should have the date of your most recent change. You may need to set your search options to search hidden files and folders.

If you find it, save a copy to your desktop or somewhere safe. You can then import the bookmarks using the Organize Bookmarks window under the Bookmarks menu. You can also do a clean install of Firefox and import the bookmarks at that point.

If you can't find the bookmarks file, do a system restore.

I've been using Firefox for three years without any problems. I downloaded 3 today, and have it freeze up on me about a dozen times today. What a piece of ****. I'm trying to get back to version 2.

Also, whoever designed the new dropdown box in the memory bar should be shot. What a complete waste.

This is extremely unimpressive.

I agree about the drop-down bar, it's driving me nuts. Why would I need to see my bookmarks in the same list as my recent addresses? Isn't that what the separate Bookmark tab is for? And why do I need to see both the web address and site name for each entry? One or the other will do. All it does is crowd up the list and make it harder to read. At least give us the option to turn this stuff off.

Other than that though, it's great. It's noticeably faster. I don't know why you would have freeze-up problems. I've installed it on 2 different computers and it runs really smoothly.

Definitely faster. I agree about the URL drop down having too much info. Are there any other significant changes?

Does firefox 3 have a new spyware blocker? Just curious because my spyware scanner (Spyware Doctor) is no longer detecting spyware when with the previous version would detect some after each time I surfed the net.

It is actually a lot more stable today. In fact it has not crashed today. Maybe the reboot straightened it out.

So the bottom line is this--

Is this worth the download or no? I've never had a problem with my current Firefox but pulling a Beyonce (lemme lemme upgrayyed ya) with Firefox seems like the right thing to do.

Still haven't found a fix. Plus, now when I type in searches in my Google Search Bar, it's showing up in my drop down box. Is there a way to turn THAT off, because that is just beyond unacceptable.
