Fire pit style grills in Austin

My dad's birthday is coming up (this weekend), and I want to get him a fire pit style grill.

Here's a picture of one from Academy:

honestly, the grill pulley thing on that is not a selling point, but it's all I could find. And it's not exactly something that looks like it's built to last more than a few years, so if I could find something of a bit higher gauge metal that is welded rather than bolted together that's what I'd really want. I know I've seen heavy duty ones around, but I have no idea where to find them. Costco had some last year, but last time I was in there they didn't have any.

Any clue where around Austin I could find something like that?

google "fire pit". There is an outfit in Cedar Park that has them. I've also seen ads for custom ones on craigslist.

I looked at them. They are expensive (tipping $400 for some) for a good size one.

I have one of those pits from Academy and it
is awsome. I love being able to control the heat
by moving it up and down. Its heavy, I think its
over a hundred lbs.

hornian, I may have a solution for you if what you want is a portable Chimnea that also has a grill top to it. It could be stowed in the RV for road trips, fired up and cooked on. It is heavy but not back breaking heavy. The chimney part lifts off.

At this time I cannot find that stupid link but I found this. It does not seem to be all to uncommon.

For the ranch I ended up buying a 4x4 sheet of 1/2 expanded metal, some angle iron, and some black bbq paint. I put it over a hole I dug, and rest it on some used t-posts. Maybe the best $60 I ever spent.
