Finding a cheap maid / assistant

I've got a single friend that is looking for somebody to do 3-4 hours per day of cooking, cleaning, laundry, and other small chores (buying groceries, taking packages to the mail, etc). Since he is a contractor making a very high hourly wage, he figures it is better for him just to work a few hours extra and have somebody else do all the household work for him. What is the best way to get this done and what is this going to cost him? Anybody have a maid / assistant that you get 16 hours a week out of? He would prefer to work with an individual and not a corporation. Thoughts?

sorry this isn't going to be a helpful response, but i foudn it funny you emphasized your friend was single and looking for a cheap maid or assistant.

Given that he only wants this person part time, a good solution might likely be a graduate student. They tend to be responsible and dependable (plus, intelligent, which helps), and probably not as expensive as someone who is looking to be more of a real personal assistant. You are probably looking at $10-20 an hour I imagine (especially if much driving is involved). I have used concierge services before, but only on an intermittent basis. When you start adding things like cooking and errands, you get beyond the scope of your standard maid service.
