A company called Transportation Management Services will be providing the Longhorn Express shuttle service for home games this year.

Pick up and drop-off locations are the same as last season:

Barton Creek Mall bus drops off at University & 21st street
IM Fields bus drops off at Dean Keeton & San Jacinto

Price is $9 per person over the age of 12. Children 12 and under ride free. You can pay per game when you get on the bus or buy a season pass for $54 (7 home games).

I hope this works out for people and without any glitches. At 9 bucks a person it better. At least there will be shuttles!

That's how I read it. P/C, I think it would be 18 bucks total to miss the fun you listed.

Isn't there a finite amount of spaces available or have there been new garages opened up in the past couple of years that could fit all the people?

It will now become a competition as to how early people get there for parking.

We have this discussion every year. The shuttles are not for people who want to tailgate all day. That was never their intended audience. If you get on the first shuttle to leave the remote lots, you'll get to campus with a little more than 2 hours till kickoff.

Those of you who do park on or near campus should be grateful that so many people are willing to use the shuttles. Your life could be a lot more difficult if every person in that stadium had to find parking in the same places you do.

FYI, the fare is roundtrip, so it's $18 total for 2 adults. You're not going to get a cab from Barton Creek Mall and back for $18. You should also know that cabs are not allowed on campus after the game, so you'd have to walk a lot further than University and 21st to catch one.

Well, I understand why people who tailgate don't want to use the shuttles. It just doesn't make sense for those people.

But not everyone has the luxury of being able to get to campus at 7 AM for a 6 PM kick-off. When I can, believe me, I do. It's one of the only things I'm willing to get up way too early for on a weekend. I just can't do it for every game. When I can only get to campus an hour or two before kick-off, the shuttle is a great option, especially since I live about 5 minutes from Barton Creek Mall.

From my experience, most of the people who ride the shuttles are elderly, parents with young children, and people from out of town who don't want to leave home early enough to do the tailgate thing. When I lived in Houston, there were times when I left for Austin at 4 AM, and not everyone is willing to do that.

So I get that the shuttles are not for everyone, but for the people who use them, they eliminate a lot of headaches, and I would think anyone who got stuck in a parking garage after the Tech game last year (no shuttle service) would be glad they are up and running this year.

Remember when it came to vote and Metro said that the trains would run on weekends? Remember that? That was awesome. Now would be a good time for them to endear themselves to the public and run the trains before and after games.

Have the circulator buses that run on weekdays (for four hours in the morning, four in the afternoon) do the same thing. How freakish would that be? Mass transit kicking in to alleviate, even if slightly, congestion and be a help to people. Perish the thought.

I would assume it is good news if nobody complained already. That's good to know! That or they are still riding around on a lost bus.
