Finally had it with Time Warner

******* TW.

I've officially had it...as I'm sure many of you have at one time or another. I've got regular cable 2-78 and have for years. TW typically raises the price $2-$6 every 6 months or so. I call them every time, call BS, and they usually recduce it. I went from $52/month to $35/month, but the $35/month was only for 3 months. I got my bill this month and the total damage was $62. That's almost double. I called them and they said sorry along with a bunch of other BS excuses. I rarely watch TV (football, Seinfeld, ESPN, and random BS), so it's not that big of a deal to have it (plus I'm at my GF's half the time). The kicker of the whole deal is that if they would have just left it at $52 and never raised it, I would never have bitched and gotten it lowered. They would have continued to get $52/month for ever...or as long as I lived there. How stupid/arrogant are these corporations (yes, I know that's a rhetorical question).

I'm done with them and look forward to slamming them at every opportunity. Pigs get fat, hogs get slaughtered.

Feels good to get that off my chest...

Oh man I can't tell you how much I feel your pain. Every few months I had to take back a DVR box, the rates kept rising, they ****** everyone out of the NFL Network, etc.

I'm glad I'm not with TW anymore.

However, I'm now with Cox, and it's not like they are much better...I just haven't been screwed long enough to hate them with quite the same passion yet.

The last couple weeks I've gotten THREE calls from them trying to upgrade my service. It's already expensive, I'm not getting anything more. Plus, my next place will not have TW if at all possible.

I used to have phonoscope in Houston. They were awesome. I got cable, about 50 extra channels+all those music channels, 8-10 HBO channels, 8-10 Skinamax channels, and Internet for just under $100.

I do feel liberated. The only other option I have here in Austin is DirecTV, and I'm not sure I want to jack with them yet...although they offer a lot more for less, which is what I tried, unsuccessfully, to explain to the ******* from TW.

Depending on where you live in Austin, there are two other, non-satellite, options for TV. Grande and AT&T U-Verse are both better alternatives. Check their sites and see if you can get service. I had Grande several years ago and liked it and I have had U-verse for just over two months now and love it.

Try living in Dallas where TW, Verizon and AT/T divide up the local areas giving you no choice by the one that happens to service your area. Not too bad unless you live in a TW zone (and don't have a south-facing patio) like me. TW is the biggest ******* ripoff in the history of man. My **** is like $110 a month (Roadrunner included) and I have 3 HD channels to speak of: ESPN, ESPN2, and TNT. Meanwhile TW in Austin has many more HD channels such as MHD, HGTV, National Geographic, and Food Network to name a few.

I want to cancel my service too but I don't think I have any alternatives. Uverse seems to be a whole lot cheaper but they aren't available where I live.

I checked but Grande and U-Verse aren't offered...of course. Only alternative is DirecTV. ****'em. Football season hasn't started yet and TV generally sucks anyway. I'm considering calling the head of the Austin office and telling them how bad I think their customer service/business is. I just need to find a name and number becasue I'm not calling the main line to talk to customer service reps who don't give a **** and can't do anything anyway.

I had it with TW about 18 years ago, and have NEVER regretted telling them to stick their service up their backsides. I went thru much of the same as previously said on this thread. The cost of my basic service just about doubled in an 18 month period. That's just not right. I went without for about 10 years, and then got Dish. I can't say that I've had any bad experiences with Dish. So far, so good.

My choices are TW or DirectTV. I'd go DirectTV but they don't have broadband internet, so they say. Is that right? Are there third party options for broadband?

Time Warner even used to be much worse. They are the most kind and helpful people on the planet now compared to a few years back. They refused to offer bundles, offer faster internet and gave ****** customer service almost as a corporate mandate.

But companies like Grande have forced them to pretend to give a **** on occasion and offer a subpar bundle. I will go without cable if it means never giving them one penny in the future. Luckily satellite will always be an option, though. For me it is Grande now, all the way.

some of you could look into verizon FIOS. not sure how many texas cities have it yet. supposed to be fiber optic all the way to your house.

As stated, I paid about $52/month for quite some time. Eventually, unannounced, they raised my bill. I called them on it and they lowered my cable to like $42. Six months later they were tacking on more charges, and I called them on it again...armed with DirecTv pricing, which was less. They lowered it again, to like $35 and told me it would only be for three months b/c they were working on new pricing stuff. Finally I got a bill this month and it was for like $62. I called them and they were ********. I'm done.

BTW, does anybody have a corporate number for TW Austin? I'd like to get ahold of somebody in the executive offices, to tell them my experience.

U-Verse is not quite FIOS, but a step in that direction. It differs from FIOS in the fact that it only sends you the 4 streams you can possibly watch, unlike Cable and FIOS which send you every channel. In theory, it saves bandwith that way. FIOS is also fiber to your home. U-Verse, in most cases, is fiber to a neighborhood node with does a certain number of homes using the traditional copper twisted pair wiring.
