Scrimmage stat sheet. I hope this image/link actually works. if not:

Looks like Hattis and Higgs got more playing time than others, based on their shot numbers.

Empress logged the most minutes (32), next closest was Brooke at 27 then Sara with 23. Lashann recorded 20 points in just 17 minutes: 9 of 16 which means she almost put up a shot a minute.

3 Pt Shooting...Yeesh. Brooke was 2-3, Lashann hit the only one she took, everyone else was a combined 0-8. Only number that scares me more? 29 Turnovers and everyone who logged any time at all had at least 1. Good god. 22 of ACU's 53 points came off those turnovers.

Yep, the turnovers will continue to be an issue again this year. And the lack of three point jump shooting will also continue to be a major issue. I really don't have a problem with Lashann taking that many shots in only 17 minutes. She shot over 50% from the field and she's also the best perimeter player on the team. Like I said in a different thread, Empress and Tasia need to stop shooting 3's. And Coach Aston needs to run an offense that gets Brooke more than 4 shot attempts.

I also said in another thread that this team will basically be what they were last year. I think Lashann will certainly help, but even though it was a scrimmage that stat sheet is very disappointing in my opinion.

I completely agree with your points on Lashann and Brooke. While the Longhorns won easily (83-56), cut the turnovers in half and the score is probably in the 95-45 neighborhood. 15 turnovers is still more than you'd want to see but this team could still win a lot of games, nearing 30? It could be a long season of close games that shouldn't have been.

The inability to consistently hit 3s or jumpers is problematic, but the greater more pressing problem is TURNOVERS. It will not matter if shots are falling, if you consistently give the ball away and that turns into points. Also if players are shooting ill-advised 3s, that is the equivalent to a turnover if you don't get the rebound.

I'm disappointed, too. But it's pretty hard to tell from an early scrimmage, and there were key players missing. After watching Texas look awful last year in their opening game against a nobody, I thought Stanford would annihilate us. Obviously I was wrong. I do worry about Atkins being injury prone. I also agree with the point that the staff needs to design an offense that creates lots of mid range opportunities for Higgs, Atkins, Turner...and more threes for McCarty.

I would hardly call Atkins "injury prone" she had NEVER missed a basketball game until last season, and even then she only had one injury it just happened to be fairly significant.

That being said, a scrimmage with two missing starters doesn't hold a lot of weight IMO no matter what the result is. That team will in no way reflect who we are come February.

Adjusting to the new rules and the frosh, to still score 85+ points with 29 turnovers says a lot. I know turnovers are concerning to some, but with the aggressive and attacking style we're looking to play this year it should be an expectation to see around 12-20 per game. That's just a by product of pushing the ball consistently.

If we're in the 12-16 range and a large portion are due to pushing the ball, I agree. My biggest complaint with TOs in past seasons has been the number we have in half court sets - bad passes into the post, cross court/skip passes that sail into the bench.
