Final evidence that Kidd trade was an awful move

While with the Nets, Devin Harris averaged 15.4 ppg and 6.5 apg. He made $3.9 million and was on the upside of his career.

While with Dallas, Jason Kidd averaged 9.9 ppg and 9.5 apg. He also threw in a respectable 8.0 rebounds per game. He made $19 million per year and is on the downside of his career.

Kidd was brought in to "win now." Tonight, Jason Kidd had 7 points, 8 assists, and 4 rebound.

Chris Paul had 32 points, 17 assists, and 5 rebounds.

Thanks, Cuban. That was a ******* horrible trade. Kidd only works well with a fast paced, running team and the Mavs are slow as ****. In the halfcourt, he's a poor shooting PG that the other team doesn't have to guard and he's too old to break the defender down.

Paul totally owned Kidd tonight. The other night wasn't much different. Paul had 35 points and 10 assists to Kidd''s 9 points and 9 assists.

Paul is averaging 33/13 against Kidd.

How's that trade working, Cuban?

I never really understand why so many "experts" picked the Mavs to win in 5 or 6. Dirk may have been peaking at the right time" but he wasn't going to be the one guarding CP3.

I just never saw how Kidd was going to help this team.

We gave away two players that were instrumental in helping us beat the Spurs.

In return we got a guy that can shoot or hit an open jumper.

I would have been okay for a Devin Harris/jason kidd trade straight up be we didn't get anything else in return. Having to give up Diop and two draft picks as well as a solid perimeter defender in Trenton Hassel is horrible.

The mavs are now 17-18 since Devin Harris went down with his injury during the game against Denver in January.

It's not like the pre-trade Mavs would be beating NO either. The Hornets are just, either way, a better team.

In the regular season Phoenix went 3-1 against the Spurs, including 2-0 in San Antonio.

Last year Dallas was doing better than 34-15 and lost to Golden State, and this year they are playing Golden State plus a strong inside presence. Of course, you could make the argument that the earlier Mavericks wouldn't be playing NO in the first round.

That was never going to be a trade that made the Mavs, on balance, a better, more competitive team in the West.

What gets me is that Cuban didn't budge when it came to not keeping Nash. That was a good move at the time, considering Nash's injury history, his age, how much money he wanted, and how bad of a defender he was.

Then, when it came to Kidd, he got stars in his eyes not unlike Jerry Jones.

The Spurs had a similar choice to make about four years ago as they were trying to decide whether to sign Tony Parker to a long term deal or go after free agent Jason Kidd. They chose to keep Parker and pass on Kidd. The Mavericks chose to trade Devin Harris and sign a much older Jason Kidd.

Nowitzki was done with Devin Harris & did not play up to his potential until after the trade. The trade was not a good one, but they were not beating NO or anyone else with a half assed Dirk .

I do not want Larry Brown in Dallas. I think Jermaine O'Neal has too many miles on him. Howard smokes so much weed, it's amazing he can walk, let alone play basketball. I miss Devin but I don't know if or when he would finally become the PG Avery wanted him to be. Stack has played hard for Dallas but it's time to put him out to pasture. Same for Dampier (except for the "played hard part"). Can't believe Dallas is still paying Shawn effin Bradley to be tall and weak.

Ya, maybe Larry Brown isn't a good idea. Who else is out there? Carlisle?

As far as this offseason goes - we could resign Diop or go after Najera. I don't think we would go after Diop now that we have Bass emerging at center. Najera is more interesting because he could bring energy of the bench as well as some toughness inside. It would be great to have him now to take a hard foul on Chris Paul after the whole West slapping Dirk thing.

Also, Maurice Evans would be available.

I know, I know, we lost to the Spurs - still the most fun team to watch.

I didn't realize Bass was that short. It seems like we play him at center a lot. I really think Bass is going to be a great player and he might be our future - he is only 22. However, it would be hard to play him, Dirk, and Damp/Diop at the same time. It might work to play him at center with Dirk out there. I think one of the main reaons we traded Diop was because we were playing Bass more. If we resign him, then we are going to have a hard time finding time for Bass since he would have to come in for Dirk.

Offensively Dirk would be great there. That might be something we could try. Defensively, I would be a little worried about who Dirk would guard - he wouldn't match up well with most smaller, quicker, and more athletic SFs.
