where are you headed in Fiji, and what hotel are you staying at? I'm thinking about it as a honeymoon spot, so if you could uptade us after the trip about what you liked/avoided i would greatly appreciate it since i don't know much about the area.
Thanks for the suggestion about registering with the State department. I have read about the coup but from our research it seemed pretty safe. We usually make it a point to not to look like Americans when we travel oversees.
Qantas had a special on the flights. We are flying Air Pacific from LAX to Nadi but the arrangements were made through Qantas.
My wife and I honeymooned there after a longer honeymoon in New Zealand. If you go to the resort islands it is pretty safe. Fly into the airport, then get ferried out to your resort island. Alot of Aussies vacation there. We stayed at Treasure Island (cheesy name, but hey, it was our honeymoon) and stayed in a bure. Other than some bad erosion on portions of the beach, it was quite nice. The island was tiny, you could walk the entire perimeter in about 30 minutes.
I am not much for vacations were you park yourself on a beach and do basically nothing, but it was nice rest after an intense trip to New Zealand.
The mainland capital is sketchy though and there is alot of poverty.
